I think I expected to have far more adventures than I actually did, looking back my childhood years were curiously absent of the troubles with smugglers and treasure hunters that I thought I would experience.

At first, Connie refuses to believe in the Faraway Tree or the magical folk who live in it, even when the Angry Pixie throws ink at her and when Dame Washalot soaks her. Produced originally in 1943, this title is a popular one and was described very aptly by a fan as "One of Enid Blyton's most enchanting tales.The first title of the main trilogy, The Enchanted Wood, was published in 1939, although the Faraway Tree and Moon-Face had already made a brief appearance in 1936 in The Yellow Fairy Book. He experiences much the same as the children did when they first climbed up and he gets the same treatment as Bessie from the first book did when she peeped in at one of the windows set in the tree-trunk. It's a table soaring skyward with the children squeezed on it followed by a bench bearing Moon-Face, Silky and Saucepan and if you don't believe a situation like this could take place just take a look at the Dorothy Wheeler picture.

The main characters are Jo, Bessie and Fanny (updated in recent revisions to Joe, Beth and Frannie), who are three siblings. For instance, when the tree is taken over by Goblins in The Enchanted Wood, the Goblins were originally fought off, with descriptions of Mr. Mix together the bi-carb, citric acid and icing sugar - feel free to taste and adjust if you want it sweeter, more sour or more foamy. The Magic Faraway Tree: A Christmas Adventure by Jacqueline Wilson published in October 2023, continues the story of Milo, Mia and Birdy from Wilson's earlier book.

Unlike the first three books in the series, this work is not a novel, but a series of illustrations with short text underneath. Dame Washalot is her name and she gets rid of the spent water by simply emptying it down the tree so Dick learns another valuable lesson.

There follows a big hunt and to make matters worse there is an invasion of the Tree by people from a rather horrible land which is visiting.
