Tilda Tries Again | A story about believing in yourself | Day Tilda Tries Again | A story about believing in yourself | Day

Tilda Tries Again will be read by Burrow on CBeebies Bedtime Story at 6.50pm on Saturday December 3.Show less Bold, bright, and empowering, this inspiring story about coping with unexpected changes is perfect for helping children build resilience. It was never really the ‘stories’ as such that engrossed me so much in her books as the portraits of her characters that were all so vivid and alive I would often think about something that one of them had done and think that it was someone I actually KNEW who had done it. Bold, bright and empowering, this is an inspiring story about coping with difficult situations. It's the ideal book for helping children to build resilience and embrace a 'can do' approach to life. What's the best thing you've ever written?A poem I wrote about a badger when I was six. It included the phrase, ‘He dragged his lumbering frame across the leaves’ which I MUST have stolen from a book I’d read that day. Sadly it was never photocopied and is now lost FOREVER. I even drew a scratchy pen and ink picture of the said Badger – we learnt to write with italic metal nibbed pens at my frankly archaic primary school. I loved how the 'topsy-turvy' feeling was left open and not given any specific reasons. This is great as often we can all feel a little out of sorts but don't know why, yet if we do know why it's very much an opportunity to discuss your own thoughts and feelings rather than have a set 'problem' discussed in the book. The book gives practical ideas and strategies children can do to help themselves feel less like their world is all upside down. Tilda's world is just as she likes it . . . until one day, it turns completely UPSIDE DOWN. All of a sudden, everything is topsy-turvy, and nothing feels right. Things that were once easy now seem incredibly challenging. Tom Percival creates wonderful picture books and this Bright Feelings series is particularly good, especially for those looking at books to support children's mental and emotional health. Here, Tilda finds a way to deal with sudden changes in circumstance, what feels desperately hard becomes a means of finding new ways of doing things. The illustrations are beautiful and work well with the story, the images reinforcing Tilda's emotional journey throughout. It's a well written story with a lovely character in Tilda, who finds inner strength and resilience. An excellent book to help discuss these issues with children or just as an enjoyable story.

Rugby League legend Rob Burrow is to read a CBeebies Bedtime

Tilda's world is just as she likes it . . . until one day, it turns completely UPSIDE DOWN. All of a sudden, everything is topsy-turvy, and nothing feels right. Things that were once easy now seem incredibly challenging. Can Tilda discover a new way to approach her problems and believe in herself? Realised I’d never done a review for this book despite reading to my class as part of my anti-bullying week teaching.MND is an uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves and early symptoms can include slurred speech and weight loss, according to the NHS. The part of the story where Tilda's world is turned 'upside down' is a brilliant point in the story to help children think about and discuss their own feelings. Have you ever felt like this? What made you feel the same way? What did you do? What could Tilda do next? I really like the way the author didn't say what had happened to make Tilda unhappy as it allows children to think for themselves. Tilda doesn't like change. Why would she, when her life is great just the way it is? But one day, Tilda's world turns completely UPSIDE DOWN. All of a sudden, everything is topsy-turvy, and nothing feels right. Things that were once easy now seem incredibly challenging. Everything is just so different and hard. Can Tilda discover a way to move forward and embrace all this change?

Tilda Tries Again: A Big Bright Feelings Book by Tom Percival

Tilda Tries Again is the latest release from Tom Percival's 'Big Bright Feelings' collection of books. In this picture book, we follow a young girl called Tilda as she happily enjoys life in her world. Her world is full of friends, books and toys…in fact it is perfect in her eyes. Tilda takes great comfort in knowing her world inside out, knowing where everything is and knowing what to expect…it could be said that she is a creature of habit - a trait that many readers, and young children, will relate to. The youngsters directed their father from the TV gallery, helped count down and shouted ‘action’ when the cameras started rolling. Tilda's world is just the way she likes it, until everything is turned upside down. Nothing feels right anymore and things that were easy to do now seem impossible. How can Tilda find a way to move on through the topsy-turvy world she now finds herself in? Watch a ‘read aloud’ video based on this book. Could you record your own narrated version of the story?Normally it involves a long train journey, because that’s the only time that I’m not having to do some of my other work, or look after the kids, or do the washing up, or tidying up the house, or chopping logs for the fire, or putting out the rubbish or any one of the myriad things I have to do in my actual house on a day-to-day basis Tilda tries again is about not giving up, about keep going, about trying as many times as you need, because everything is going to be okay. It is positive, entertaining and such a well-written story that children will relate to. What is so good is that Tilda brushes herself down and decides to try again. It also refrains from it being a sob story or self-centred story. It does in a fun way, promote reslience and that there will be a better day. It could also have a positive impact on children in a way that may just make them feel good inside and out and ready to try again, as Tilda does. A lovely book which supports children’s emotional well-being and mental health by promoting resilience, problem-solving and a can-do attitude when challenges occur.

A must for all schools. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri...Percival's simple, colorful illustrations pair beautifully with the author's thoughtfully worded text. Teachers looking for a book to help children discover coping skills when life unexpectedly becomes too difficult to handle will embrace this title due to its subtle messages woven within the context of an engaging story that promises to be a fun read for all.
