About this deal

You might get confused between these two Mediterranean drinks quite easily. When comparing raki with ouzo, there are a few significant differences. First off, Raki has Turkish roots while Ouzo is a beverage that originated in Greece. Yes, the distillation method used in both produces a distinct aniseed flavour by using grape pulp. The alcoholic volumes do, however, vary. The primary difference is that Raki is much, much stronger than Ouzo. You can definitely taste the difference even if you can’t see it. Raki vs Cretan Beers During the last decade, tsikoudia became extremely popular all over Greece, so tsikoudia of dubious quality and origin began to be traded. The high demand for large quantities of bulk low-price raki caused problems of uncontrolled distribution. An alcoholic spirit cannot be placed on the market without the production and bottling legislation being followed and without the official name of the producer or bottler on its label. Tsipouro is a strong liquor in Greece between 40% and 45% similar to Grappa. Tsipouro is a distillate from the pomace of Greek vines and it’s transparent. You can buy in liquor shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. 8. Metaxa Get into the holiday spirit with hot red wine mulled with cinnamon, cloves and honey (krasomelo)! There are also coffee shops at every turn in Greece. You can either buy a traditional Greek coffee brewed in a special pot and served in tiny cups, unfiltered with foam on top and coffee grounds on the bottom or else even have it the regular way. Tea is also something that draws attention. Crete has unique Greek mountain tea, which is also known as shepherd’s tea. It is mild yet has a smooth herbal undertone due to malotira mountain tea found on Crete’s mountain slopes. Cretan Wines The fresh tsikoudia (protoraki) at this stage is particularly strong, and in traditional cauldrons, where there is no cooling stage, the raki comes out almost hot. It is advised that you not to try too hard and if you want to continue with last year’s tsikoudia collection. Raki, in general, is a very beneficial drink. While it is an alcoholic drink that should be consumed accordingly, Cretan raki seems to have health benefits when consumed in moderation of 1 to 2 glasses in a day. Rakomelo is famous for being a Cretan drink, although there are some versions in other Greek islands. Tsikoudia is a single-distillation drink, unlike Ouzo and Tsipouro. The grapes or tsikoudia, which are then pressed grapes with skins and seeds intended for tsikoudia, are kept for about 40 days after pressing in barrels where they “boil”, and fermentation takes place. The barrels are transported and placed by the distiller in the cauldron, which is placed on a base. When it is time to boil, they are put into the boiler with water. Underneath, they light a wood fire, where the grapes begin to boil. The fire should be neither too strong nor too loose. The intensity of the fire is important so that the grapes do not sizzle or burn, and the tsikoudia smokes and gets a bad smell. The distillation continues before our eyes.

Rakomelo, a delectable blend of Raki (Crete's traditional spirit) and locally made honey, is the ideal alcoholic beverage to enjoy during the harsh winter months. It's even betterwhen spiced upwith cloves and cinnamon. During the summer, some people drink it at room temperature or even ice-cold, but the warm versionis more popular.

Ouzois the most popular of the drinks in Greece and Cyprus culture. Ouzo is a dryanise flavoredaperitif. Ouzo is created fromdistilled and flavored rectified spirits. The taste of the Ouzo can be similar to other anise liquors likerakı,arak, pastisandsambuca. 2. RAKIIn other countries you have mulled wine or glogg, but in Greece we like our wine plain and cool. However, we do have rakomelo. The word is the combination of raki (Cretan distilled drink also known as tsikoudia-not to be confused with the Turkish raki)
