Players complete the agendas given on victory cards by accomplishing tasks in five different focus areas: culture, science, economy, industry, and military. First released back in 2012, Clash of Cultures is Sid Meier’s Civilization with the serial numbers filed off.

Players organize their focus areas by constructing a focus bar at the beginning of the game, which is placed beneath each player’s leader card. Gains from trade are in turn used to purchase civilization cards, such as agriculture, coinage, philosophy and medicine, which grant special abilities and give bonuses toward future civilization card purchases. Conversely, a leader may choose a competitive civilization that uses rival nations to advance its own agendas. Also, at the end of combat, wounds aren't healed and only strength minus wounds (aside of other combat bonus) are counted to declare the winner. Almost everything I liked about the game also frustrated me, and so I'm really confused about whether I like it - that makes it hard for me to really give it a great score.

He didn't, and ended up losing when someone bought the Alpha Centauri colony ship and had enough technologies to just eek ahead in points. This allows for a greater number of wonders in the game, as well as allow small cities with low production to build a much needed construction. This sounds pretty cool, but frankly, I'm wary of anything that will make this an even longer game to play.

The same can be said for this game but it wasn’t so much “fun” as it was more like I had a ton of stuff going on so working all the angles took some focus. Civilization is widely considered to be one of the most influential games in the strategy genre, cited as foundational to both the grand strategy and 4X subgenres.

Certain spaces on the map contain huts and villages, which represent passive and aggressive barbarians, which grant resources on discovery. In the Ancient Wold of the eastern Mediterranean and the Near East, each player controls a different nation as they seek to become the most powerful and advanced civilisation. Finally, once Fusion (the last technology) has been developed, anyone can build the Alpha Centauri Colony Ship wonder and end the game with a Technology Victory condition.A situation that I encountered (when I was so frustrated I wanted to give up) was this: I had 3 level-3 infantry, 2 level-1 mounted and 1 level-1 artillery at the beginning of the turn. The popularity of Sid Meier’s Civilization means the video game is, by extension, likely the best-known civilisation-building board game on the tabletop, too. First, as with most Eagle board games, it has high production value including over 200 figures that were well sculpted along with a very large, detailed board.
