About this deal

I don’t actually mind that it takes up so much room, because I find it even heats the surrounding air, doubling as a low power radiator. It has six fold-out shelves and 13m of drying space to easily accommodate a full load of washing, and then some. If you prefer to do a quick garment wash in a hotel sink rather than send it down for cleaning, the hot air vents in this chunky clothes hanger’s extendable arms will quick-dry shirts, socks or undies in the time it takes to drink a minibar beer. It looks just like a hanger but the two ducts are easily expandable to hold up to four items or a pair of shoes. If you’re after a savvy laundry drying solution that can be cheaper to run than a tumble dryer (or putting the heating on), and speedier than air drying, look no further than a heated clothes airer.

It can’t house a full load of washing but is handy is you have several garments or items you want to dry quickly. In fact, the platforms can be folded down on either side so that it takes up even less space if you only need to dry half a load. They come in all shapes and sizes, and once plugged in, their electric rails heat your washing, meaning your towels, sheets and clothes will be ready to be put away in no time. Heat-up times are also worth considering as it can extend the drying time if your airer takes a while to get to temperature. You will definitely need to use the supplied cover and you should also shift the clothes around, so that the heated bars are in contact with new parts of the clothes every hour or so.Innovative items like robot vacuum cleaners and wine coolers are among her favourite tests to date, and her most notable accomplishment is toasting 360 slices of bread in a determined bid to find the best toaster. It circulates hot air around your clothes, which are encased in a tent-like, ventilated outer cover. It was one of the quickest dryers when it came to heat-up times and was warm to the touch in just 10 seconds.

They can also be made L-shaped, so that you can use the Minky against the wall and only hang clothes on one side of it - a nice touch. But it’s good if you’re drying wool jumpers flat and then dangling socks and shorts from the “wings”, and it does come with a cover to speed drying, which not all airers do. But it’s the only airer we tested with wheels, which were helpful when it came to steering it to a clear drying spot in the corner. The clothes were dried laying flat on the shelf, draped over a single heated bar and on the hanging rail. Powered by a 1,200W motor, this pod-style dryer will hold 18 garments (or up to 10kg of clothing) and can be left on for 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minute time slots, or just switched on and off at will.Personally, I favour the larger version – if you’re using it anyway, you might as well dry two loads at once and then put it away until next time.

Some mention that it heats up well, and it heat the room too, so there's no need to put the heating on. It performs similarly to Lakeland’s Dry:Soon deluxe three-tier heated airer, but it is currently cheaper. If you’re looking for ways to dry your laundry without putting it in a tumble dryer, you need a heated clothes airer in your life.Laura started writing Swears By articles for Mumsnet in 2021 and has recently taken over responsibility for laundry content. The tiers can be rearranged (by unfolding one half of the rung down), making way to dry longer items such as trousers, dresses, towels or bedding. I tested each airer on a variety of clothes from lighter shirts and dresses to heavier jumpers and jeans, as well as large items like duvet covers. Plus, when you don’t need it, the handy concertina-style, folding design ensures easy, fuss-free storage.

A heated clothes airer gives off heat through the rails, warming up the clothes rather than the room, so it shouldn’t cause condensation on walls or windows. We could easily fit a whole load of washing on the rails, spreading out socks and underwear on the wings and using the main rack for larger items such as towels and dresses. The heated airer is economical and cost-effective, making it more energy-efficient than tumble driers.
