Weekend roundup and volunteers needed!

Hi All,

It was a busy weekend for Didcot Phoenix, with our Open Club 10 attracting a large field of riders and many thanks to all volunteers who helped run the event.  It was a successful afternoon on the Witney bypass with Paul Gamlin of Northover Vets Team winning the event in 20:08.  First DPCC rider was Steve Mead who had a time of 22:05.  Results can be seen via the link below.

In other news, DPCC club member Phil Brown had a cracking ride in Wales beating the current club 25 record with a time of 50:04 and completing the top 10 of this hugely popular event.  Congratulations Phil for an amazing time!

Equally fast Richard Harrison was also in action this weekend on the super quick V718 course up in Hull…Richard finished the 10 miles in 19m 46s.

Finally, this coming Sunday is the club Hill Climb Championship.  There is a huge trophy up for grabs, but we are still looking for a time keeper to run the event.  Please contact if you are able to help.

Bye for now,

Wittenham Clumps Hill Climb – 20th August

Giles Clark (Zappi’s Racing Team) finished quickest up Wittenham clumps on a slightly shorter (~100 yards) course from the inaugural race in 2014. Rob Friend (GS Henley) took 2nd with Ron Smith (DPCC) 3rd.

Thanks again to the many club members for enabling the event to happen, and the club still needs helpers for the Hill Climbs on the morning of Sunday 30th, so if you can help email here.

Hill Climbs – helpers required

Can you Help? The Hill climb scheduled for tomorrow evening (20th) up Wittenham Hill needs a start timekeeper and a Pusher.
This also applies to the hill climbs scheduled for Sunday 30th on the Crays Pond and Streatley Hill climbs.
If you can help respond here or drop me a email at

Also dont forget that there will be a social in the Plough in Long Wittenham after Thursday’s Hill Climb 🙂

New Club Record – Phil Brown does it again!

Phil Brown took 11 seconds out of the club 25 mile TT record on Sunday 7th September on the R25/3 course in South Wales .

Again a huge congratulations Phil from all in the club!

Also on Sunday the club ran another hill climb on the new Wittenham clumps course HHC028.

George Towersey and Oliver Clark were competing in the Junior RTTC National 10 mile Championships on Saturday 30th August, both riders had really impressive rides with George finishing in 13th with a time of 21m38s, and Oliver in 41st with 23m 35s. Full junior results.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Mens RTTC National Championships, with Phil Brown making the long trip to the fast Hull V718 course. Phil Finished 59th, with 86 of the 143 riders posted times under 20 minutes. Full mens results.

Phil’s ride of 19m 38s is a new Senior and Vets Club 10 record.

Congratulations Phil from all in the club!

Club Hill Climb Championships

Also on Sunday 31st August, the club hosted the annual hill climb championships on Crays pond followed by Streatley Hill.

Ron Smith had the fastest club time up Crays pond, with Tim Allen in second place just 3 seconds off his pace, with Martin Cairns from Reading CC in 3rd.

An hour later on the slopes of Streatley, David Ryan from Zappi’s CC was quickest with Tim Allen 2nd ahead of Ron Smith in 3rd.

After the times from both Climbs had been added it was apparent there would be a new champion in 2014

And so Tim Allen becomes Club Hill Climb Champion 2014.

Hill Climbs – Sunday 31st August

This Sunday sees the annual Hill Climbs of Crays Pond at 09:31 followed by Streatley Hill at 10:31.

Both climbs are Come and Try it events, so as ever, non club members are most welcome.

Signing on to both climbs will be at around 09:00 at the bottom of Crays pond in Goring. The Senior and juvenile (under 16) club hill climb cups are awarded to the club riders who produce the lowest aggregate time in the 2 hill climbs.

The following Sunday (7th September) will see a new hill climb of Wittenham clumps, which wont be quite as steep, but no less competitive.
