About this deal

Michael Morpurgo has crafted this tale with all his skill and all his love and respect for animals and the way we interact with them. The character I truly disliked was Judith’s father and I was very pleased he was not in the book very much.

We get to know her at the start of the novel, but from then on, we only get to see what she does, not so much what she feels. Judith becomes increasingly attracted to Loveday's older brother Edward and eventually succumbs to his gentle seduction. I loved that Judith is a regular person, not a saint but quite admirable, and challenges are presented over which she prevails.Prepping the space, painting, more painting, still painting, assembling new bookcases, and putting the room back together again. Finally, the example of Judith's friend's mother, who had a "bolt-hole" apartment in London and was pleased to have her friends use it and thus share the joy is something that has guided me in real life. However they spent it, Judith knew that nothing could be worse than that Christmas, two years ago, when Mummy insisted that they spend some time with her parents, the Reverend and Mrs. I hate how they look like sappy romance novels because somebody put dorky flowers and curlicues all over the cover, but rest assured, they're far from that genre.

I am just getting acquainted with Rosamunde Pilcher's novels, but almost overnight I have become an ardent admirer of her work.

She is introduced to a world of wealth and privilege by her classmate, Loveday Carey-Lewis, whose family owns the magnificent Cornwall estate known as Nancherrow. Judith has her father’s sister, Aunt Louise, with whom she is to spend holidays, and makes friends with Loveday Carey-Lewis, who is to have a huge impact on her life and fortunes.

Judith becomes immersed in the Carey-Lewis family as well as with her aunts and uncle ~~ and falling in love . It sees Cara reflect on how her family, home and culture have shaped her life and gives a profound glimpse into her world. Michael Morpurgo, began writing stories in the early '70's, in response to the children in his class at the primary school where he taught in Kent.As WWII progresses from a threatening storm into reality, Judith and her family must face many hardships.
