About this deal

Darkness Manipulation The Darkest Knight can fire beams of darkness from his hands powerful enough to harm the Forge of Worlds-empowered Wonder Woman. [19] He can also generate chains from his darkness. [16] While Bruce conducts research in the Batcave, the Joker appears on television again and threatens to kill Jay W. Wilde, another millionaire industrialist. Batman deduces that Claridge was killed with a time-released poison and tells Gordon to run a blood test on Wilde. Gordon does so, but nothing is found. Gordon is at Wilde's estate with other officers when a police helicopter crashes outside the estate. The Joker then appears and releases poison smoke bombs into the building. The Joker shoots Wilde with a bullet dipped in his toxin, killing him, and escapes. Batplane (Formerly): His Batplane consisted of mandible-like wings and according to Batman of Earth 0 was quite fast. The title is a reference to Victor Hugo's novel The Man Who Laughs, whose main character was one of the original inspirations for the Joker. [2]

The Batman Who Laughs went out into the Dark Multiverse to assemble the most twisted versions of Batman out there to aid in conquering the main Multiverse. Traveling to each of the Knights' worlds minutes before they were erased from existence, he appealed to their desire not only to live but to bring their unique brands of truth and justice to worlds beyond their own. Each Batman jumped at the opportunity, and they awaited their moment to travel to Earth 0. Telekinesis: Bruce is capable of manipulating the movement of objects and people with his mind. [16] He was able to control multiple fragments of the Source Wall to imprison Perpetua. [13] During the reign of the despotic King James II, in 1685–1688, one of the King's enemies was Lord Linnaeus Clancharlie, Marquis of Corleone, who had fled to Switzerland. Upon the lord's death, the King arranged the abduction of his two-year-old son and legitimate heir, Fermain. The King sold Fermain to a band of wanderers called " Comprachicos", criminals who mutilate and disfigure children, and then force them to beg for alms or be exhibited as carnival freaks. During the " Dark Nights: Death Metal" storyline, The Batman Who Laughs becomes Perpetua's lieutenant. Aided by an army of evil Batmen from the Dark Multiverse called the Dark Knights (consisting of Baby Batman, Batmansaurus Rex, Batmobeast, Castle Bat, and Robin King), they enforce her rule. When Wonder Woman decides the best course of action is to make the first Anti-Crisis following a talk with Wally West, she is confronted by the Batman Who Laughs, whom she proceeds to gut with an invisible Chainsaw of Truth. Though dead, the Dark Knights set to work to unleash the Batman Who Laughs' true plan: preparing the body of the final Bruce Wayne. [7] This body happens to be Batmanhattan, a version of Bruce Wayne who copied the formula that created Doctor Manhattan. [8]

The Art

Claridge's murder is soon compounded with even worse news: while the police - and Batman - had kept watch over the penthouse, the Joker had invaded a psychiatric hospital many miles away, killed most of the staff, and armed the most dangerous inmates with heavy weaponry. Batman is forced to spend the rest of the night chasing these rampaging inmates, recapturing only a fraction of them; on exhausting all his leads, he retires to the Batcave to engineer an antidote to the Joker's poison. Every character – whether they’re as prominent as Bruce Wayne or a briefly seen GCPD officer – is wonderfully drawn. This includes the grotesque horror of the Joker’s first test subjects early in the book. Huss, Christophe (23 April 2023). "Le nouvel opéra selon Marc Boucher". ledevoir.com (in French) . Retrieved 18 July 2023. In 2023, Canadian composer Airat Ichmouratov, composed an opera Tha Man Who Laughs to a libretto in french by poet Bertrand Laverdure, adapted from an eponymous novel. Commissioned by Festival Classica, it was premiered on May 31, 2023, in Montreal, Canada [21] [22] [23] On one particularly dismal night, Gordon's unit - along with Batman - discover an abandoned factory filled with corpses, all disfigured with chalk-white skin, green hair, and unnaturally large smiles. To Gordon's dread, Batman notes that some of the corpses are significantly aged, and speculates that the perpetrator had only been "practicing" on them.

As part of his plot, the Batman Who Laughs revealed that he had captured the Over-Monitor, who, when linked up with the Anti-Monitor's astral brain, would destroy all of reality, both the Dark Multiverse and the Multiverse and leave nothing but darkness. However, his plan was interrupted by the Justice League and their allies from throughout the Multiverse. Brubaker and Mahnke hit us hard and fast with the Joker’s brutality, opening with the discovery of chemically mutilated corpses in an abandoned factory. Joker, Scarecrow, Clayface, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, and many others put the Dark Knight through his paces in this haunting tale. This book helped establish Arkham Asylum for the iconic locale that it is in the world of Batman. 4. Not entirely sure the batman copycat concept works here, esp since the beginning sequence is now purely focused on setting up the narrative elements re the mob, the joker, DA harvey, and batman's mission-- the copycat concept just detracts from 'setting the stage' especially as the dialogue from the copycat has been cut from the beginning sequence -- these copycats could certainly be cut from the scarecrow scene, which would then simply have batman + the tumbler intrude on scarecrow's meeting w the russians before scarecrow gets away. This obviously would necessitate cutting the copycat's dialogue about batman being a symbol in the joker's torture video, and narratively have the joker just dress up a poor random guy in a batman suit before torturing, killing him, and putting a noose over the corpse before tossing it over the side of the mayor's office (which would be a surprise for the audience while still fitting into the 'chaos' aspect of the Joker's MO and how he's causing all this chaos due to batman's presence and how batman should unmask himself to stop this senseless violence and death) After arriving on Prime-Earth (Earth 0), the Batman Who Laughs takes control of Gotham and oversees events at the Challenger's mountain. He distributes joker cards to the Batman's Rogues, giving them the ability to alter reality and take over sections of the city. [3] Accompanying him are Dark Damian and three Rabid Robins, having intended to destroy all of reality by linking the Over-Monitor to Anti-Monitor's astral brain. The Batman Who Laughs is defeated when the Prime Universe Batman is aided by the Joker, who notes the alternate Batman's failure to perceive this scenario due to still being a version of Batman. [4] This story has just enough Brubaker in it to be enjoyable, particularly for his existing fans. Brubaker’s love of the tabloid rags from the Golden Age of Hollywood comes through in how he methodically plans and dissects his own use of violence, making even a fantasy world of Gotham feel more like the late edition of some yellow journalism fish wrapper (which I mean in the best of ways!). During the conflict, the Batman Who Laughs' son Damian was killed, but Bruce was apathetically unmoved.
