About this deal

Bitumen paint is usually long lasting. If applied to a porous surface like masonry it will last longer than when applied to less porous surfaces, especially those subjected to long hours of extremely hot sun. I have just installed a plastic membrane roof and sealed the joints with heat gun . I have painted over the heat sealed joints with bitumen paint for added protection . General purpose, solvent-based. waterproofing paint. Provides a hard wearing, protective layer on wood, metal and cement. Suitable for brush application only.

It is not wise to use bituminous paints on general painted surfaces. If applied over existing paint the solvent may soften the paint beneath. If subsequently painted over with an ordinary oil paint then it will bleed through. I have looked at several makes of bitumen paint, and there are several which include wood in their list of uses, so it does seem that you can apply bitumen paint to wood in accordance with given instructions. Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium is for over-coating bitumen-based surfaces. It helps protect surfaces from heat/UV light damage, with a decorative coating and will enhance the lifespan of bitumen-type roofing materials. The flexible, heat resistant and solar reflective surface has outstanding weather resistance and durability. Ideal for use on roof structures, storage tanks, silos, mobile homes and caravan roofs. Reflects heat in the summer and insulates in the winter. Sure, a professional would never recommend doing such a thing - the cumulative sharp intakes of breath alone would deem against it.

The steel will be hot dip galvanized (120 micron) and coated with epoxy paint. However, we intend providing an additional two coats of bitumen paint taken up to 50mm above ground level (tarmac path). However, I trialled this a number of years ago, and have since used it on both smooth planed timber fascias and rough sawn wood. Not only does it give a beautiful finish, but there have been no signs of flaking whatsoever, and all that timber is South-facing. Some trellis work which only received a single coat is now showing areas of weathering - but no flaking. A top-up coat can just be slapped on to the secure layer below. Exterior wooden surfaces in particular can retain moisture for up to 48 hours after rainfall or preparation. Ensure the items are thoroughly dry prior to painting. Also suitable for interior wood, concrete and most laminate floors with correct application – please note that maintenance may be required in these situations. A 750ml tin will provide a single coat of up to 12.5m 2. For a durable finish, a minimum of 2 coats is required, so your 750ml tin should provide full coverage for just over 6m 2 on non-porous surfaces like laminate or metal. Limited Edition 500ml tins will provide a single coat of up to 8. 5m 2 .

Usually cheaper than many other coatings offering similar weather proofing performance, it’s an economical option Metal protection - corrugated iron sheets, fire escapes, stairways, ladders, storage tanks, gutters, downpipes, fences, railings, gates etc. While it’s generally reasonably heat and UV stable, its lifespan may be reduced in extremely hot and sunny countries. Preparing the surface is of vital importance to enhance the adhesion and life of the coating. All surfaces must be thoroughly dry and clean as well as sound and stable. Metal surfaces should be wire brushed to remove rust and for long-term protection, a rust-inhibitive product such as zinc phosphate or red lead should be used. Blistered or loose paint as well as tar-based paint systems should be eliminated. New galvanised surfaces should be treated with a proprietary etch primer or roughened with a wire brush.

We make every effort to match our online colour swatches to the paint, however, we cannot guarantee an exact colour replication as images can display differently due to screen types and device settings. Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions and we recommend application of 2 coats. Use Conventional or HVLP spray, brush or roller. Our bitumen paint products Felt adhesive such as Carbobond, is a solvent based mixture of bitumen, fillers and fibres, formulated for bonding felt (as the name suggests), so it is better to apply this first then the roofing felt which will (of course) adhere to it. Bitumen paint can then be applied on top of the roofing felt for extra protection and/or aesthetics. Will bitumen paint cure a leaking concrete roof? It’s frequently used on metal guttering, fire escapes, stairways, ladders, railings and fences. In the marine sector, bitumen paints are commonly used on boat hulls. Apply with a good quality brush or roller. Also suitable for spraying - thin with up to 15% tap water and apply additional coat(s).

Avoid painting in direct sunlight, only when the air and surface temperatures are between 10 oC and 32 oC and humidity is less than 85%. Do not apply if, in the following 48 hours, there is likelihood of rain, frost, fog, condensation or if the temperature is likely to drop lower than 10 oC. This means that certain times of the year are unsuitable for painting outside projects - as a general rule of thumb Summer is recommended. Protecting coating on concrete etc: Due to the porous nature of concrete and some stone surfaces, an initial primer coat of Everbuild primer should be applied.

Natural bitumen has been used, tried and tested for thousands of years and is known for its waterproofing and adhesive qualities. Natural bitumen is found in deposits such as oil sands and pitch lakes, while refined bitumen is obtained as a residue from the distillation of crude oil. I’m hoping for some advice regarding the additional protection of galvanized steel below ground level. Protect skin and eyes and apply in well ventilated areas outdoors, do not inhale. Do not apply near open flames, sparks, heat or hot surfaces. sources. Dispose of any waste responsibly as it is toxic to wildlife. Do not swallow. Would bitumen paint be suitable for protecting the underside of a steel trailer?
