About this deal

Along the way, this adoption of having an open mind on everything makes her become more like her sister Tess. Many times I felt I was intruding into the intimate life of Beatrice as she bares her soul with the grief of losing her sister.

Bee slowly develops the gumption to defy everyone who accepts the suicide theory, including her mother, her fiancé, Tess’s psychiatrist, and the police. Beatrice’s journey as she unravels her sister’s events that led to Tess’s death will keep you hooked to your seat. from current fiction, thrillers, non-fiction, poetry(Emily Dickinson,Robert Frost, Donne etc), ghost stories, sci-fi/fantasy(Gaiman,Pratchett,Rowland) to classic literature and new voices in writing. Also, the thing about the sisters' mum with her 'dressing gown rustling in the dark/smelling of face cream' in their childhood is repeated at least FOUR times, which is definitely unnecessary in quite a short book.I've had an endless supply of quotations at my disposal, but they had always highlighted the inadequacy of my life rather than providing an uplifting literary score to it. The way that everything she turns up and brings to the police gets twisted to fit the theory of mental illness is well done. Poignant and thrilling, this clever debut explores the fascinating bond between sisters, and haunts you with the power of their love.

This book quite simply sums up both these statements; it was ‘ok’ and it did keep me entertained for a couple of days, but it is no great work of fiction. But when I woke up I thought of her when she was three wearing a fairy skirt I'd got her in the Woolworth's and a policeman's helmet. A thrilling story of fierce love between siblings, Sister is a suspenseful and accomplished debut with a stunning twist. Ruth Jones, author and actress, said 'It's gob-smackingly, heart-stoppingly, breath-holdingly brilliant. It's very readable and, as a mystery, it works; you do find yourself rooting for Beatrice, the narrator, as she endeavours to uncover the truth about what really happened to her younger sister, Tess - who has supposedly committed suicide, though Beatrice believes she was murdered. It’s not a style you see very often in novels and it took me several chapters to get used to it and finally get into the flow of it but once I did, there was no turning back. Cassandra Dewell can’t leave Montana’s Lewis and Clark County fast enough for her new job as chief investigator for Jon Kirkbride, sheriff of Bakken County.
