I think people need to stop describing themselves like warriors and survivors and definitely stop making themselves victims and instead open up.Kaur’s verses use metaphors and similes that spatialize and give form to mind, body, and identity, helping to conceptualize how each plays a part in our emotions. As always, there’s focus on love, self-love, feminism, immigration and mental health amongst a whole array of other things. The poem “there is a conversation / happening inside you / pay deep attention / to what your inner world / is saying” makes one conscious of the different components that coexist to make up a person.

These political poems balance out the personal and individualistic pieces, giving voice both to the broader social issues of our times and the intimate anxieties they feed. I would probably have enjoyed it more if I had the actual book so I could flip back and forth as I wanted to get the full picture. Even though a lot of the topics Rupi wrote about aren't anything new, it felt good reading this book.It gives insight into how they started off and the epiphanies/lessons-learned she has garnered over the years. Best of all, it helps you learn about your tastes so you can go into personal projects within your home with a clearer direction.
