The Toxic Avenger Collection (includes The Toxic Avenger, The Toxic Avenger II, The Toxic Avenger: Part III, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV ( US/UK) – 8/29/23 – N4K perhaps the most flashy-looking installment of the series, for better or for worse, and it's here where HDR10 achieves quite a bit more balanced color Frankenstein (1931) (US/UK) – Coming in box set on 10/5, single film Steelbook is Best Buy exclusive – N4K The film is directed by Sylvester Stallone from a screenplay and story by Stallone. The film is produced by Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff and stars Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, Tony Burton, and Burgess Meredith. A big hit sequel gets a bigger budget and you can feel how much more professional-looking this film is with a gorgeous 1.85:1 2160p Dolby Vision transfer. While still very 70s appearing, the film as a whole is a lot cleaner, brighter, and more lavish so you can see more of those fine details in clothing, locations, and in facial features. Film grain is fine and apparent throughout without looking too noisy or intrusive. I also didn’t notice any of the slight smoothing I spotted for the first film so it looks more naturally uniform.
Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) fueled the rising career of its star and mirrored the film's unlikely success, even if the some of the stories Ju-On: The Grudge Collection (UK only - contains 5 films but only the original Ju-On: The Grudge is in 4K) (No US release/ UK) – 12/19/22 – N4K, DV The very welcome move from the Criterion Collection to expand into 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc releases in the UK continues into 2024, with the confirmation that Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise is set to [...]
