About this deal

This was partly due to the sometimes difficult to understand instructions. But also because there are many parts that you have to put together. In the end, we build it in an hour and a half. And maybe that’s because we may not be very handy. If you love American barbecue and a strong smoky flavour, throw a few chunks of smoke wood in between the coals in the hopper. The smoke then enters the kettle more directly, so you can be sure of a good smoky taste. The side tray looks like it is riveted on. That is a little concerning – as, if you pulled very hard, it might break off. Baking and roasting isn’t out of the question either, and with the cooking temperature being controlled by a digital control panel, the sky’s the limit. Temperature Range:

The one aggravation that I had with this cooker is the hopper base tray, the tray that holds up all the charcoal. My guess is the glue that bonds the two ends together can’t handle the heat; so it partially melts the glue every time the grill gets hot enough.

The Masterbuilt 560 is reasonably economical when you are running low and slow. If you want to cook at higher temperatures, your fuel will go quite fast. That makes sense, of course, because the hopper is a large controlled fire starter. This is annoying if you want to do a reverse sear where you will initially aim for say 110°F, and then you want to increase the heat and aim for 135°F. One very minor inconvenience is that the lid to the hopper opens toward the grill, so if the grill lid is up, the hopper lid cannot fully open. I’m not sure there’s necessarily a scenario where one would need to have both open at the same time, but it does seem slightly odd that it was designed this way. Masterbuilt 560 Price: The vertical charcoal hopper is designed to hold over 12 hours of briquettes. The hopper will hold about 10lbs of lump, give or take the size of the lump charcoal that you’re using.The Masterbuilt gravity feed charcoal grill has a range of 225° on the low end and 700° on the high end. It’s selectable in 5° increments from the temperature control panel, and the onboard fan/controller combo do all the work of maintaining the temperature.
