About this deal

Kombu kelp can contain up to 2,984 mcg of iodine per seaweed sheet (1 gram). This provides almost 2,000% of the recommended daily intake ( 6). Monahan M, et al. (2015). Costs and benefits of iodine supplementation for pregnant women in a mildly to moderately iodine-deficient population: A modelling analysis.

The povidone-iodine complex is active at pH values between 2 and 7. The microbiocidal effect is based on the fraction of free, non-complex-bound iodine released in water-based ointments or solutions from the povidone-iodine complex as defined in an equilibrium reaction. The povidone-iodine complex thus to some degree represents an iodine depot, which releases elementary iodine protractedly and in this way guarantees a steady concentration of the efficacious free iodine. As a result of oxidation, the concomitant application of Povidone-iodine 10% w/w Alcoholic Tincture and enzymatic wound treatment agents weakens the action of the enzyme components of both drugs. The latter is also true of hydrogen peroxide and taurolidine as well as of disinfectants containing silver (formation of silver iodide). Iodine-induced goiters may be reversed by adding iodine-rich foods or supplements in the diet. 3. Managing overactive thyroid gland Videne Antiseptic Solution should only be applied after careful diagnosis and for only extremely limited use for neonates and nursing infants up to the age of 6 months old Standard Process prides itself on its high manufacturing standards. Each of its supplements is tested for purity and potency an average of six times before being sent to market.

Iodinated povidone had a low acute toxicity in both dogs and rats following either oral or intraperitoneal administration. Absorption of iodine through intact skin is low following the application of solutions of iodinated povidone although systemic absorption of iodine is greatly increased if the solutions are applied to broken skin, mucous membranes or are introduced into the cavities of the body. At subcutaneous dose levels of up to 75mg/kg/day, iodinated povidone was non-teratogenic in rabbits following administration to pregnant animals during the period of organogenesis.

Iodine can also be found in plant foods, such as cereals and grains, but the levels vary depending on the amount of iodine in the soil where the plants are grown. How much iodine do I need?In antiseptic topical therapy of burn wounds, Videne Antiseptic Solution is generally applied undiluted to the areas to be treated. Wound treatment should be continued for as long as there are signs of an infection or a marked risk of infection of the wound. Should infection reoccur after discontinuing treatment with Videne Antiseptic Solution, treatment can be resumed. In 1873 the French medical researcher Casimir Joseph Davaine (1812–1882) discovered the antiseptic action of iodine. [18] Antonio Grossich (1849–1926), an Istrian-born surgeon, was among the first to use sterilisation of the operative field. In 1908, he introduced tincture of iodine as a way to rapidly sterilise the human skin in the surgical field. [19]

Due to the possibility of skin irritations, when used for preoperative disinfection of the skin avoid pooling of the product under the patient. Standard Process Prolamine Iodine provides 600 mcg of iodine, or 400% of the DV, and 30 mg of calcium in each capsule. Iodine is found in iodized salt, dairy products, seafood, and eggs. It plays a role in thyroid health and immune health, as well as fetal growth and brain development ( 1). Elemental iodine is slightly soluble in water, with one gram dissolving in 3450mL at 20°C and 1280mL at 50°C; potassium iodide may be added to increase solubility via formation of triiodide ions, among other polyiodides. [23] Nonpolar solvents such as hexane and carbon tetrachloride provide a higher solubility. [24] Polar solutions, such as aqueous solutions, are brown, reflecting the role of these solvents as Lewis bases; on the other hand, nonpolar solutions are violet, the color of iodine vapour. [23] Charge-transfer complexes form when iodine is dissolved in polar solvents, hence changing the colour. Iodine is violet when dissolved in carbon tetrachloride and saturated hydrocarbons but deep brown in alcohols and amines, solvents that form charge-transfer adducts. (2) A few seconds after excess PPh 3 was added – CT complex is forming. (3) One minute later after excess PPh 3 was added, the CT complex [Ph 3PI] +I − has been formed. (4) Immediately after excess I 2 was added, which contains [Ph 3PI] +[I 3] −. How much iodine is needed?

Aqueous hydrogen iodide is known as hydroiodic acid, which is a strong acid. Hydrogen iodide is exceptionally soluble in water: one litre of water will dissolve 425 litres of hydrogen iodide, and the saturated solution has only four water molecules per molecule of hydrogen iodide. [48] Commercial so-called "concentrated" hydroiodic acid usually contains 48–57% HI by mass; the solution forms an azeotrope with boiling point 126.7°C at 56.7g HI per 100g solution. Hence hydroiodic acid cannot be concentrated past this point by evaporation of water. [47] Unlike gaseous hydrogen iodide, hydroiodic acid has major industrial use in the manufacture of acetic acid by the Cativa process. [49] [50] Symptoms of acute poisoning from ingestion of iodine include a disagreeable metallic taste, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea may occur. Renal failure may occur 1-3 days later. Death may be caused by circulatory failure, swelling of the epiglottis causing asphyxia, aspiration, pneumonia or pulmonary oedema. Oesophageal stricture may occur if the patient survives the acute stage. The fatal dose of iodine is 2 to 3g. Symptomatic treatment for allergic reactions and iodism may be required, although symptoms usually subside rapidly when administration of iodine or iodide is stopped. In acute poisoning copious draughts of milk and starch mucilage should be given. If there is no oesophageal damage the stomach may be emptied by aspiration and lavage with dilute starch mucilage or a 1% solution of sodium thiosulphate, Use of gastric lavage with activated charcoal has also been suggested. Electrolyte and water losses should be replaced and the circulation should be maintained. Pethidine or morphine sulphate may be given for pain, under medical supervision. A tracheotomy may become necessary. as subsequent iodine-induced hyperthyroidism cannot be completely ruled out. In these cases, the doctor should be vigilant for early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism for up to 3 months after therapy has been discontinued and, where necessary, thyroid function monitored;
