About this deal

The TV job pays but Tanz does not have the most glamorous of roles - that goes to established TV star Caroline. Caroline is a prize bitch however this hides her own demons which Tanz is able to help her with, but also gaining insight into her own life. What a refreshing read for me! I'll admit, I have read a lot of "ok" books lately. This was definitely not one of these! Right away I liked Tanz and I loved her easy Northern way and low tolerance for BS! Her abilities, which aren't too over the top at all make her really special and I really loved this story. I haven't read book one but I'll be adding it directly to my wish list! So when Tanz is offered a paid acting gig in her hometown, things start to look up. But Newcastle’s dead won’t stay quiet for long, and soon Tanz becomes haunted with visions of a mysterious Gin Palace guarded by a sinister figure. As Tanz starts to piece together a terrible tragedy, it becomes clear there’s no limit to what the poltergeist will do to keep his secrets his own.

I did enjoy reading the book but I would have liked a bit more to the story and a little more action. After an interesting twelve years messing about in front of the camera and traveling the world, Tracy discovered she still loved writing and completed her first full length play KABOOM! A son, many stage plays, screenplays and a music video followed, until 2012 when she realized she was finally ready to do the one thing she’d longed to do since she was six. She wrote her first novel, The Accidental Medium – a crime/horror/comedy tale about an alcohol-soaked, gobby, thrill-seeking actress who talks to ghosts. (Who knows where the inspiration came from . . .) Screen Actors Guild Awards - Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series - nominated I really enjoyed this book and found the characters to be brilliant. Tanz is hysterical and I think everyone will find her entertaining and want to read more about her, I know I do! There are some emotional bits in the story and some creepy bits but most of all it's fun and you won’t want to put it down.Caroline Smailes on The Accidental Medium Spooky and hilarious and brimming with oddball characters, I love this book! This was heading for five stars until that point. Now I feel like four might have been overly generous. In retrospect, there were a fair few avenues that were only superficially explored.

Gin Palace” is the second in the ‘The Accidental Medium’ trilogy books by Tracy Whitwell and works just as easily as a stand-alone or as a follow up. Any references to a previous event that occurred is covered enough for the reader to follow unheeded and the crossover into this book worked really well. It was genuinely easy to endear to Tanz and her friends, Milo and Sheila and her new acquaintance Gladys and I felt I made life long friends with them all too.

Actress Tanz is an accidental but talented medium and it’s while she’s filming scenes for a local tv series, that she becomes reluctantly embroiled in solving a century old murder that’s spooky, spiritual and at times scary. The emotional support she offered troubled fellow actress Caroline, who had recently been treating her as a second class citizen, was very endearing and truly brought a tear to my eye. I absolutely loved this second book from Tracy Whitwell and think the writing is better if possible!! Totally enjoyed and will be recommending far and wide! Whilst I binged the first book, I found this one harder to get into and I didn't realise how much I had forgotten from the first book until it was mentioned in the second one but with little context to jog my memory as I read the first one months ago.

For me this book fell flat. I couldn’t really connect with Tanz or the other characters associated with her. Another fun romp with Tanz, this time on home turf where she has returned to for a minor role in a TV series. Set 7 months after the events of the first novel, Tanz is still coming to grips with her newfound abilities. This has involved alot of merlot, Netflix and hanging out in bed, alone.I really enjoyed this book, Tanz is such a great character and there are a lot of laugh out loud moments, as well as some spooky ones, in this book.
