About this deal

Ligt het aan het feit dat ik die boek in (een zeer Hollandse) nogal stroeve vertaling las? Ligt het aan het feit dat dit boek voelt als een verplicht nummertje? Een zoveelste variatie op hetzelfde thema? Raynor knows that her husband Moth's health is declining, getting worse by the day. She knows of only one cure: the healing power of walking.

Walking can be healing, as Winn ( The Wild Science) found. She and her husband Moth have walked long distances in different countries over the decades, including after his diagnosis of an incurable, degenerative disease, which Winn described in The Salt Path. That journey helped Moth's health, but as it worsens amid the pandemic, the author hopes another trek will work again. In the vein of Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods, this book takes readers on the couple's journey in a narrative sprinkled with character anecdotes and vivid scenic descriptions. They come across kind, sometimes strange people—and maybe a ghost, although Winn doesn't call it that. History, politics, and environmental issues are explored as the couple battle blisters, relentless insects, and temperamental weather. The dangers are real, both in nature and as human ailments, which keeps readers invested in the story. The author doesn't shy away from expressing fears and doubts about both her and her husband's abilities. VERDICT Hope and determination in the face of all odds drive this engrossing book. Readers who have undertaken caretaking responsibilities for loved ones will find much to relate to in this honest depiction. —Elissa Cooper Library JournalIf you followed Raynor and husband Moth on The Salt Path, you will thrill to join them on this epic walk, from Scotland's wild and beautiful Cape Wrath Trail. Miracles might just happen when you put your best foot forward * Saga Magazine * Raynor Winn has done it again. She's achieved a miracle, defying all odds and walking 1,000 miles with her beloved husband Moth. But she has also given her vast army of fans?both armchair hikers and the real thing?another wondrous book, full of compassion, humour, insights, closeness to nature and true, bloody-minded grit. An inspiration.” The Salt Path made it's impact on me as a new voice, a new way of living and a life being lived in the moment one foot in front of the other. vast on siin raamatus eelmistest rohkem kõhklust ja süütunnet ja seda küsimust, et kas ta ikka suudab, kas me suudame. muidugi ei võeta ette ka lihtsat ülesannet, esimene plaan on matkata läbi Cape Wrath Trail Šotimaal ja see on ka noore ja terve inimese jaoks paras katsumus. aga lõppeb see lugu muidugi ikka sellega, et Fort Williamis pidama ei jääda, sest West Highland Way kutsub... ja Glasgows ka ei jääda pidama... ja kui juba möödaminnes on Pennine Way ka ära tehtud, siis on selge, et enne koduni (Cornwallis) jõudmist see paar rongi peale ei istu. Another heartwarming odyssey, this time on one of the wildest walks in Britain . . . Winn seems to have a bird's-eye view of Britain - a map at her feet, a keen eye for detail, particularly for social injustice. Hers is a voice of empathy and integrity * GUARDIAN *

Raynor’s husband Moth has Corticobasal degeneration. An insidious disease with no cure. A disease which is difficult to determine, only diagnosed when everything else has been ruled out. Raynor convinces Moth to go on a long healing walk. If you followed Raynor and husband Moth on The Salt Path, you will thrill to join them on this epic walk, from Scotland's wild and beautiful Cape Wrath Trail. Miracles might just happen when you put your best foot forward. The Cape Wrath Trail is hundreds of miles of grueling terrain through Scotland's remotest mountains and lochs. But the lure of the wilderness and the beguiling beauty of the awaiting glens draw them northwards. Being one with nature saved them in their darkest hour years earlier—and their hope is that this experience can work its magic again. This third book about the lives and travels of an amazing couple is a must read. The life they are leading despite their problems and Moth’s illness is inspiring and helps to put most people’s problems in perspective.

Raynor Winn is a master of writing about nature and grief. A gripping story about a search for home, resilience and emotion, all the while in conversation with the sea.” - The Guardian The powerful story of a 1,000-mile healing walk—from the lochs of Scotland to England's southwest coast—in a remarkable evocation of modern-day Britain. A thrill to read. The nature writing is beautiful, heartening and comforting. You feel the world is a better place." The Times (London) mida ma üldse saan Raynori ja Mothi loo kohta öelda sellist, mida ma eelmiste raamatute puhul juba öelnud poleks? siin läheb ikka edasi seesama lugu, mis algas mitu aastat tagasi Mothi diagnoosi ja nende kodutuksjäämisega; kodutuse teema sai lahenduse, aga ravimatu haiguse teema mitte. täiesti ootuspäraselt halveneb Mothi tervis uuesti ja täiesti ootuspäraselt asub 60-ste abielupaar (Raynor mõni aasta alla ja Moth mõni üle) jälle matkarajale, sest see on see, mis enne on aidanud. This book is between 3-4 stars, and perhaps I'll change the rating one day, but for now, it sits at around 3.5 stars. I felt really torn giving this book this rating as I loved a lot of it. I loved the premise of the book- walking to try and reverse a chronic, degenerative disease. As someone with a chronic illness, it spoke of hope, and has made me very thoughtful, wondering whether immersing myself in nature could help my conditions.
