Can you remember the wine cooler that was wine mixed with tropical fruits? It looked and tasted a bit like orange and pineapple squash, but fizzy. Come to think of it, maybe it was nearer a 4.8% alcoholic version of ...But as chocolate fans get used to the latest changes what other sweet treats have we loved and then lost over the years? The spiral chocolate bar - which took its name from the spiral like chocolate shape inside - was first launched in the north east of England by Cadbury in the 1980s. After proving to be exceptionally popular it was rolled out across the UK and became a firm favourite among chocolate fans.

It was the late 1990's when Cadbury's Nobble bars were around. They were the fantastic price of 20p - they were small, but well worth it for the taste! I started off with a lightly-buttered loaf-tin, lined it quite badly with baking parchment and poured in some of the melted chocolate to form a base. Unfortunately, it remained too much of a best-kept secret and the bar was withdrawn in 1994. Applause The Wagon Wheel the size of a manhole cover, the Fry’s Chocolate Cream with the different coloured fillings, the little bags of sugary coconut known as Spanish Gold? A Cabana bar was a chocolate bar made by Rowntree’s, the British confectionary company responsible for treats such as the Kit Kat, Aero, Fruit Pastilles and the old favourite, Toffos.Heat the oven to 180°C / Gas 4. Spread the desiccated coconut evenly on a clean baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until lightly toasted. A delicious and salty sandwich biscuit with cheesy filling in 1970's pubs. Two pints and a bag of Cheese Specials please. Fantastic. Red and blue cellophane wrapperwith exotic (at the time)"Ashby de la Zouch" in the small print! Before Freddo came along, these were the cheap and cheerful chocolate bars with a caramel centre and Looney Tunes' Tazmanian Devil (Taz) engraved on them.

I worked in Charing Cross CJ's before the unit opened and had many great times with the lads n lasses there. Being 23, I was older than most of the crew, but thankfully had a brilliant shift manager - Billy, ... Originally called the Snowflake, It’s also one of the few chocolate bars to make headline news – Anthea Turner and Grant Bovey were accused of cheapening the sanctity of marriage when they were pictured promoting it (inadvertently they claim) at their wedding. Dream From 1934 until 1992, it was possible to consume all five of these flavours in one bar thanks to the Fry’s Five Centres, a novel chocolate bar which contained a different taste explosion with each piece. Aztec One recipe was for a version of the famous Bounty bar, a lovely soft coconut fondant within a coating of milk chocolate, and instantly I made the mental leap and decided to make my own Cabana bar. It would live again! Remember when Caramac and KitKat combined to produce a classic four-finger KitKat wafer smothered in caramel, in 2005? Those were good times – not so much for our teeth, though.One of several variations on the crumbliest, tastiest chocolate, this turn-of-the-century product saw Cadbury put their white chocolate into a standard Flake. These strawberry and vanilla flavoured boiled sweets were what your nan would give you to keep you quiet while travelling on the bus. So, there you have it my fond memories of 1970s chocolate bars and everything that went with it!
