About this deal

I’ve driven with just about every high-end radar detector that’s ever been released over the course of 44 years and for the last several years my go to detector has been the Uniden R7 for a whole host of reasons. The Uniden R8 is Uniden’s current top-performing windshield mount radar detector and is currently the best performing detector on the market, bar none. Uniden R4: The R8 outperformed the R4 in Highway / TSF off, surprisingly. I would have expected them to perform the same. I even gave the R4 a third pass and it never managed a longer distance alert.

For the sake of review brevity, many other features of the R8 are similar to the R7 and can be found in our in-depth Uniden R7 review. Conclusion The arrows work pretty well overall. MRCD performance is excellent for those who need it. The detector isn’t fully stealth to RDD’s which doesn’t make a difference to me, but it may to others. This is a valid question, considering the Uniden R8 is one of the more expensive radar detectors on the market. Ultimately it comes down to what you will realistically need and use on your daily drive. The bottom line is, the Uniden R8 takes the crown over all other radar detectors with both its extreme performance and great feature set. The R8 is the most sensitive detector we’ve ever driven with.I generally select the speed and compass display mode. When driving in Canada (where posted speeds and distances are in the metric system) I select KM/H over MPH speed display. Audio Behavior Alert Tones The GPS database is currently version 1.47. This was released earlier this year and is available from the links above.

The Uniden R9 comes complete with front and rear radar antennas, six laser jamming heads, a GPS module, external speaker, a full multi-colored display module, keypad, and connecting and mounting components. I have heard the praises of "arrows" for yeasts and years when Valentine was the only Detector with them. I borrowed a friend's for a couple of weeks while he was traveling to see if I should invest in one at the time. It was effective and the arrows were intriguing. But my habits had taught me to simply slow down no matter what until the threat was no more. Thus I never bought into arrows. The arrows on the R8 are definitely helpful. The arrows are big, clear, and easy to read. You can also customize the arrow color based on band. Arrow behavior isn’t perfect, but they work pretty well. Sometimes they flip right as you pass the threat, especially at lower speeds. Sometimes they’ll flip a few sec after, especially at faster speeds.

Simply put, the Escort MAX 360 Mk II and Max 360c Mk II remain a solid choices and both are among the best detectors currently available.

The appearance and design configuration of the R8 is a nice improvement over the R7 and appears more upscale. The R8 appears more substantial than the R7. The R8 (pictured on the left, is slightly wider, but slightly smaller in length to the R7 (pictured on the right). For additional insight, browse through the Radar Detector forum, which has an entire discussion sectiondedicated to Uniden radar detectors. There are tons of people on there (myself included) who can help you make the best decision. If you need the highest performance at the most attractive price tag, then the Uniden R7 is probably the better choice. It comes with almost all of the same features that you’d get with an R8 and still performs very well in terms of its detection range and false alert filtering capabilities. When configured optimally, the Redline 360c, Max 360c MkII, and MAXcam can be scary quiet and false-resistant to K-band collision avoidance systems. But its quiet nature comes at a steep price–slow responsiveness to K-band. The result is its detection performance is on par with the best radar detectors available today, such as the Uniden R8 and the Escort Redline 360c.Uniden R8 Review Supercharging the Uniden R7 makes the Uniden R8 the best directional radar detector we’ve ever driven with. Why does such a high end unit not have an app already developed for it ? And when will the Bluetooth be enabled? How can an app be developed when the detector can’t utilize it yet ? With K band there were a lot of different settings combinations to test with each detector so I dropped things down to just 2 passes per detector / settings combos.
