About this deal

It’s not surprising to have a story about a dystopian future where people prefer the virtual world, to the real world. It s surprising that the story goes out of its way to spell out that God is as big a fantasy as the Easter bunny. Also unnecessary to the story is the large amount of cursing, and the detailed section on masturbation. The apparent theme of”live in the real world “ is all but lost through all the glitz and glam of the virtual world. Adults on the other hand will love it for all of the 80’s references and the references to classic fantasy and sci-fi.

What’s the first thing you remember geeking out over? Wade sets up shop on an asteroid on Sector Fourteen, which he has bought and named Falco. He has been living in Columbus for five months, and it has been eight weeks since he last spoke to Art3mis. He and Aech are no longer friends, although he has managed to strike up a friendship with Daito and Shoto. Using his fake identity, he has also managed to get a job doing low-level OASIS technical support. One day, at the end of a shift, he discovered that Art3mis has obtained the Jade Key. Wade’s next mission is to journey to Halliday’s recreation of his childhood home in Middletown, Ohio. As Wade is leaving the Tomb of Horrors, he sees Art3mis, who has failed to defeat Acererak. Wade lies and pretends Acererak beat him too. Art3mis realizes he’s lying and is furious at first; however, they part ways on friendly terms. Just like anything that's awesome... People are going to sit down and give you an opinion. In Ready Player One's case... It's all about how the movie differs from the book. Get started Close Wade recalls the moment when he heard about the death of James Halliday, the creator of a multiplayer game named the OASIS. The ordinary TV broadcast was interrupted with a short film entitled Anorak’s Invitation, in which Halliday recites the “highlights” of his will. He transforms into Anorak, his OASIS avatar, and announces that he’s hidden an Easter egg in OASIS. The first person to find it will inherit his entire fortune and estate. He recites the first clue about the Easter egg’s location, and wonders aloud if he’s made the hunt too difficult. He announces the beginning of the hunt, and the video ends. Art3mis chose the leet spelling as her username because the original spelling was already taken. p. 93Ernest Cline: It might be because young readers have all been raised in a world filled with high technology, just like the characters in the book. People born during the last two decades have grown up with the Internet and handheld computers. Most of their toys contain microchips, their video games have always looked incredibly real, and they’ve never known a world without mobile phones. They’ve also grown up in the aftermath of 9/11 and the global economic collapse. For all of these reasons, I think the world described in Ready Player One is very familiar to them, and that helps them relate to the characters in it. Young readers have also lived through endless reruns and reboots of ’80s movies and TV shows, so many of the touchstones of that decade are still familiar to them, even if they didn’t experience them firsthand. In the early 2000s, Cline got a film script made, but the movie – Fanboys, about a bunch of kids trying to access Skywalker Ranch to see an early cut of The Phantom Menace – was disjointed and awkward. “It took years for the movie to get made, and my screenplay got heavily altered,” he says, recalling battles with producers about changing the plot and characters. “It was all very dispiriting. But it prompted me to finish the novel, because I wanted to see what would happen when I had total control over the end product, as opposed to movies where you have almost no control over anything.” Contest Winners Level Up In The Ready Player One Easter Egg Hunt". Giant Freakin Robot. July 11, 2012.

The Sixers are now in possession of an artifact called Fyndoro’s Tablet of Finding, which will help them with the Hunt. Wade flies his starship, the Vonnegut, to a planet named Archaide, which is a museum of old arcade games. To his surprise, Wade finds a recreation of Happytime Pizza, a pizza place Halliday frequented as a child. Inside, there is a Pac-Man machine, which Wade realizes contains another Easter egg. However, while he is playing, he sees that Aech has overtaken him on the scoreboard. Wade manages to get the new high score on Pac-Man, and at the same moment receives a message from Aech with a clue that leads him to the Jade Key, which is situated on a nearby planet called Frobozz. Wade successfully locates the key and narrowly avoids an encounter with a group of Sixers. The violent clashes between gunters and Sixers that ensues is known as the Battle of Frobozz. During the action, Shoto finds the key, but in almost the same moment, Daito is killed. Nolan Sorrento a.k.a. IOI-655321: The head of operations at Innovative Online Industries (IOI), the multinational corporation that serves as an Internet service provider for most of the world. Cline said that he named Sorrento after Nolan Bushnell, founder of the video game company Atari and said "Not that I think Nolan is a bad guy or anything. It’s meant as a subtle tribute!" [14]

James Donovan Halliday a.k.a. Anorak the All Knowing: The creator of OASIS. His avatar's name is based on a British slang term for an obsessive geek. His character was initially inspired by Willy Wonka who Cline described as a "rich eccentric holding a fantastic contest". Cline used the personalities of Howard Hughes and Richard Garriott, and placed Halliday's birth year around the same as his own so that his pop culture interests would coincide with Cline's "and the other middle-aged uber-geeks I know".
