About this deal

So in summary, the Topping D30 continues to outperform other DACs including the FX-Audio DAC-X6. In the three way comparison, Fiio E10K lands in the middle and the DAC-X6 easily finishes last. Measured performance of the FX-Audio DAC-X6 is rather disappointing. It loses to similarly priced Fiio E10K and by a larger margin to Topping D30. phones: Audeze LCD2f (Bamboo/suede), LCD2.2 (Rosewood/leather); prev. Hifiman HE400, Denon AH-D2000 You see, a headphone amp is just a glorified output stage; the circuitry, and voltage output, is little different from the circuit that feeds the rca outputs from a dac, or pre-amp.

Review of the FX-Audio DAC-X6 - NerD|OtakU Review of the FX-Audio DAC-X6 - NerD|OtakU

Yeah; this is a mains powered amp (rather than usb, or battery), that's one of the factors why I chose it. This is surely the (most) correct category. The FX Audio DAC-X6 is a Digital Audio Decoder and amplifier with multiple input options and a budget-friendly price. I've got another 'proper' rig, for my 'serious' listening. This dac-amp combo is just for computer media usage; mainly films, series, youtube etc. I would normally just plug straight into the laptop, for this. But the laptop's sound has a problem (thankfully only in the analogue domain). I have to use USB audio, now. When I got it, I was impressed by the sound. Thats why I made an own analysis to confirm or deny what you found out. My hypothesis was that there is some postfiltering after the DAC stage going on depending on the sample rate at which the device is used. The FX Audio DAC-X6 comes in a basic brown box with the company brand on the front and “Mini Audio DAC. Your Music Dream!”This applies for most countries. However, large items such as headphones and desktop DAC/AMPs (e.g. HarmonicDyne G200, MUSICIAN MDP-2, and etc.) are excluded. By the way Marantz stopped designing DAC’s after the HD-DAC 1 I think because they know it’s no use designing something around DAC chips who look extremely good on paper but color the sound to stand out in the market. The High Res audio thing is just marketing. To compoare it with visual technology the latest DAC’s it’s like designing a monitor not only with RGB colors but also ultraviolet light. It’s useless. You can’t see it but it hurts your eyes. Same with the latest DAC’s…. Customers are to bear the consequences and fees incurred, if the parcel was undelivered due to any of the following situation: On the right side of the plot we have THD+N, dominated by distortion. In this case we have clear differences between channels but THD+N ratio would be -107 dB for left channel and -103 dB for right channel (again the ratio of signal level and THD+N level). Or 0.00045 % and 0.00071 %, respectively. I like decibels more." I am going to present this in two parts. First part in this post is the usual set that you see from me. For the second part, since this DAC has S/PDIF input, I thought I use that on it, Topping D30 and Exasound E32 to run a full suite of measurements. This is made possible by my Audio Precision Analyzer controlling the source signal which is not (easily) possible using the USB port (newer versions of AP support PC control but only using ASIO and not WASAPI). To make sure the data is not overwhelming, I will put these extra measurements in follow on posts.

Measurement and Review of FX-Audio DAC-X6 DAC (compared to

The feature set is quite rich with USB, optical (toslink) and coax S/PDIF inputs. The unit is externally powered which is another unique thing in this low price rage. As such, power consumption from USB port is minimal at 50 milliamps. With labor being so cheap in China, it makes economic sense for them to do that. In the video I posted you can see the lady sitting there taking out individual components (likely resistors) and putting them in their respective bins.In this review, I’ll be taking a look at the DAC-X6 and seeing how it performs with relatively low power headphones, being Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros at 80 Ohms, which are enough to warrant the use of an amp. I won’t be including detailed diagrams and graphs, which you can find here, but will be reviewing based on my opinion of sound quality, build, aesthetics and various other factors. Compare X6’s line-outs to something like Topping E30 and the latter shows a bit more tone richness and subtlety. DAC X6 is a bit rough around the edges but not that far behind really. Layering is good and the sound-stage is respectably wide, but the upfront presentation doesn’t convey much depth. That’s perfectly fine in my book as no device near this price can’t really do much stage depth either. The impulse response is also strange. Here is the graph for the X7 and also the Topping D10 impulse for a comparison. Doesn't it look like a minimal phase impulse VS a linear phase impulse? (measurements made via a Scarlett 2i4 2nd Gen and REW). As for other noise(s); I've not noticed anything. This, at least, suggests to me that the DAC-X6 isn't particularly sensitive to computer generated interference, via USB.

If anyone wants to review my files, I uploaded the recordings at https://nilsschneider.de/temp/whitenoise_test_dac_x6.zip Noise floor is too high when used with 32 ohm in ear monitors. Not usable for any in ear monitor. Topping L30 amp was dead quite when used with same monitor. I believe the PCB with the white daughter board is a later revision on the FX-AUDIO DAC-X6. Not sure what the difference is but to me it sounded good. I had actually bought one recently to test. My first one did not have the daughter board and sounded similar. If there’s anything to complain about, it’s a slight midrange dryness, meaning that both instruments and vocals could’ve done with a bit more body and tone decay. But this gets obvious only if you compare it to more expensive gear. On its own, and for its price, DAX X6 MKII is a stunningly capable performer.

When someone asks me a question I do not understand, I replay with "Not sure" or "I do not understand". Could I immediately hear a difference going from onboard audio to the DAC-X6? Honestly, I couldn’t. I felt like I wasted my money… Front panel buttons are old fashioned toggle switches but they have a solid, reassuring feel. There is an on/off switch which I like and a button for selecting one of the three inputs. With the exception of the Fostex T50 MK3, the other headphones sounded good and loud enough. But with neutral bass oomph compared to the E10k.

FX-Audio DAC-X6 MKII Bluetooth 5.0 Digital Audio Decoder DAC

Good to hear all of your opinions of the X6 here. For a newbie like me, it's certainly comforting to know that I'm hearing what others are hearing. Switching to Hifiman HE-400i headphones, most of the differences went away. After listening for a while, I could still hear some improvement from the DAC-X6 but clearly this is a less demanding headphone than the HD-650 is. It is also more comfortable to wear. To conclude, the FX-Audio DAC-X6 is an impressive headphone AMP and DAC, that noticeably improves sound quality. If you are looking for a budget AMP and DAC for headphones, the DAC-X6 is a brilliant choice. That is an interesting find. Definitely an attempt to copy one another. Who came first is had to tell. As is knowing which is better without a bench test.Hey, thanks for your input. I ended up followed what you said, plugging the speakers into the headphone out. That worked out quite well in the end. On the other hand, its physical build is far better than the Fiio E10 and even Topping D30. And its headphone output which never gets distorted regardless of its dial position, is able to drive difficult headphones like the Sennheiser HD650. Now I realise that this must be, for sure, transformer hum, as both these amps have theirs onboard (two, in the case of the H10). But, the X6's is external.
