About this deal

I should also mention that the BU8000 came with a slight panel defect with a green strip running vertically down the screen that would appear every now again, mainly when streaming content. Sound Quality The TV can go reasonably loud, although if you push it too hard, the sound can become distorted and the woofer can actually shake the screen. The amplification might be a little too powerful for a TV this thin, so it’s best to keep the volume at a sensible level. Overall, the UE55NU8000 displays good stereo separation, and dialogue is intelligible, while effects and bass have some impact.

The key here is a combination of performance and value. So, has Samsung achieved the perfect balance with the BU8000? Design There is ALLM – automatic delay reduction mode. Note that with Game Mode enabled, the output latency (input lag) is 11ms. As always, this is an average between 1080p and 4K resolutions, so expect very similar performance regardless of the resolution you play at. Smart TV The UE50BU8000 is a native 4K TV that supports HDR in the HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ flavours. Samsung continues to snub Dolby Vision, though, despite the format’s popularity elsewhere.Apart from Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness and Colour, there aren’t many settings to worry about on this TV, however a couple of them are particularly significant. As well as the UE55NU8000, the range also includes the 49-inch Samsung UE49NU8000; the 65-inch Samsung UE65NU8000; the 75-inch Samsung UE75NU8000; and the massive 82-inch Samsung UE82NU8000. The 49-inch version uses a 60Hz panel, but the other sizes are all 120Hz. Taking a step down to SDR with The Amazing Spider-man 2 on Blu-ray, there’s a lot more for this set to get its teeth into, colour-wise. Watching the Times Square scene, it’s clear this TV upscales well. The shot over the neon-lit New York streets still shows tremendous micro dimming control. The lights of windows and advertising boards don’t spill into the nearby dark and the picture remains clean.

A near bezel-less TV designed to leave you with only the beautiful picture to enjoy. It's also flexible enough to work with your home setup too, thanks to a versatile TV stand. Simply adjust the space between the TV screen and stand to fit your soundbar. Plus, it’s easy to hide TV wires from sight and keep them tidy with the easy clean cable management solution, for a distraction-free viewing experience.

Samsung delivers another affordable 4K TV hit

There are apps galore, with all the big names covered along with Samsung’s own apps (its Health app is front and centre). Despite no Freeview Play, Samsung offers the free streaming-based TV Plus service as an alternative, and all the UK catch-up apps are present. That’s a positive, though. At a touch over 25mm deep for our 55-inch version, the chassis is enviably slim, and the bezels surrounding the screen are minimal too. It can be wall-mounted, of course. If you don’t fancy that option, though, and would rather stand your new TV on a surface, the Samsung’s feet are usefully close together, so your surface needn’t be as wide as the screen itself.

The BU8500 can’t go particularly loud either, and bass is thin to say the least. The only thing that saves it from rating very poorly for sound, actually, is that while it’s not really up to keeping action movies company, it does enjoy a nice, engaging, uncluttered tone with relatively undemanding day-to-day TV fare. Verdict The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. The BU8500’s pictures are also not quite as pin-sharp as the images we’ve come to expect from Samsung’s 4K TVs. Native 4K pictures still look like 4K, to be clear, and the level of sharpness feels quite natural, too. But the TCL 55C735K, again, looks slightly sharper. The Samsung UE55NU8000 borrows its look from the company’s more expensive QLED TVs, although given the much lower price point, Samsung has cut some corners in terms of material and build quality. Many countries receive market-specific variations of television, of course, due to differences in broadcast standards and so on – so at present there’s no confirmation of what the equivalent Samsung screen will be in other territories. What we can be certain of, though, is that both the United States and Australia will be getting a range of competitively priced, competitively specified Samsung 4K LED TVs that are more than a little reminiscent of the BU8500 series. Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image.

We did spot some signs of this with the UE55BU8500, too, but the issue is brighter and impacts more of the screen area on the UE50BU8000, at least while watching high dynamic range content. This can be seriously distracting, drawing your attention away from what you’re supposed to be watching as a dark scene unfolds. The clouding can hide shadow details in its extra greyness, too, and it contributes to some small colour uniformity issues as the grey areas slightly adjust the hue of any dark colours that appear behind them. The level of detail is excellent, thanks to some highly effective image processing. Samsung has always produced sophisticated upscaling, and the UE55NU8000 is able to render every last pixel of detail as it scales lower-resolution content to match the UHD panel. In terms of image upscaling, the processor is still very efficient. From SD content and live content up to 720p, 1080p and 4K, the TV did not show any obvious artifacts from the upscaling process. But keep in mind that the end result is always very dependent on the quality of the original content. Information about the minimum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. Very often the manufacturer provides the response time for transition from grey-to-grey (G2G). Of course, we don’t all live on a diet of brand-new cutting-edge content - and when it comes to upscaling, the Samsung (mostly) continues its good work. Certainly an HD broadcast of some elite-level tennis suffers hardly at all – colors are confidently described, on-screen movement is stable in almost all circumstances, and detail levels stay high. There’s a little coarsening of skin-tones and a hint of jaggedness to the more difficult edges, but by and large the BU8500 remains eminently watchable. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)
