About this deal

The best budget golf rangefinder does not need to feel or act cheap. Instead, you can get all the functionality you get from a premium rangefinder and just give up on a few of the bells and whistles. Let’s start with slope. With the flip of a switch, the PRO L1 can change from a tournament-legal rangefinder to one that adjust your yardage for the change in elevation. The display is well organized and shows both the adjusted and raw yardages. You therefore need to decide which suits you best. Ordinarily I would have always chosen the watch option but there is a lot to be said for the extra accuracy that range finders bring to the table. Having both is definitely an advantage when it comes to lowering your score. Sam is a member of North Hants Golf Club in Fleet, Hampshire, where he won the club championship 3 times in succession from 2015-2017. His golfing highlight to date is shooting a round of 10-under 60 at his home club, narrowly missing a wedge shot for a magical 59.

If you turn Slope off, the only readout you’ll see is the horizontal distance. To make the unit tournament legal, a red LED below the switch illuminates when Slope is turned off. Avoid touching the lens when possible. If the lens becomes dirty, please wipe gently with the cleaning cloth provided. Although some cheaper models will have slope, this slope cannot be turned on and off and accuracy levels tend to drop. What is the cheapest rangefinder that will work well?GolfBuddy Laser Lite is water-resistant. If you get caught in a bit of rain, you won’t need to panic, but the model is not fully waterproof. Worried? I wouldn’t be – it has survived a full winter of testing in the great British weather. With the three targeting modes, Standard, Scan, and Pin, you can really help yourself scan the horizon off the tee and then narrow in on the target using Pin Finder mode into the green. The Nikon claims to be accurate within a 2-yard range with this Coolshot model. Although it may not sound like too much of a difference, you have to consider whether you would rather have a 3-foot putt or a 9-foot putt for birdie… Features Finally, it’s worth noting that the PRO L1 is about 20% lighter than other rangefinders, but is comparable in size. In my hand, it actually feels a little larger, though it has the same silhouette as my previous rangefinder. I prefer this profile to the super compact lasers because my fingers aren’t cramped trying to access the buttons. In addition to the rangefinder, you also get an excellent carrying case that you can attach to the outside of your golf bag for easier access.

Overall the features of this rangefinder will mimic any of the top models on the market and surpass some. Usability To be able to clearly see the target you are looking to find, the optics of a rangefinder are vital. Sometimes with a budget golf rangefinder, it is hard to find a model that will help you narrow in on the target. However, the optics on the TecTecTec Vpro500 are really clear, with great adjustability on the zoom and focus. The TecTecTec Vpro500 is very lightweight, compact and portable. The exterior is durable, and there is a carrying pouch that comes with the unit to help keep it safe. Usability Maybe the best way to look at the Shot Scope PRO L1 rangefinder is that it’s an example of a known company launching a product while the others are examples of products launching a company. This is a small consideration but something that certain golfers will want to ensure they have thought of prior to purchasing. Usability

Conclusion

I also want to give credit to Shot Scope for the excellent instruction manual that’s included with the PRO L1. Many companies are going toward online manuals which are a hassle. This simple foldout explains every mode and button on the PRO L1 so that you can get the most out of it even if this is your first experience with a rangefinder.

Voice technology is something that we have seen in GPS rangefinders for quite some time. If you think this could benefit you on a laser rangefinder, then the GolfBuddy Aim L10V is the place to look. This scrapes in the top end of our ‘budget round up’, but offers great function for the price. Accuracy One of the most fun things about testing golf rangefinders is when you find a budget model that can hold its own against a premium model. The GolfBuddy Laser Lite does the best job of disguising itself as a premium rangefinder in the budget golf rangefinder category. Accuracy Comparing the two is not really fair considering the Shot Scope comes in at less than half the cost of the Garmin and is understandably not going to fare well in any direct head to head comparison. Yet it is only human nature to compare and when certain features I’d started to take for granted with the Z82 were suddenly not available, I’ll admit to feeling a little disappointed initially. The accuracy of a laser rangefinder is talked about at length. However, the view through the scope is not often brought up quite as much. If you can’t clearly see the numbers that the rangefinder comes up with, how accurate can it be?Like most modern rangefinders, the Shot Scope PRO L1 starts working the moment you install the (included) battery. One press of the power button brings up the aiming crosshairs, another press gives you the distance. The first thing you will notice about the GolfBuddy Aim L10V is how small it is. For some golfers, this is positive, and for others, this is a negative. We like these more compact rangefinders as they are lighter in weight and easier to manage as we make our way around the golf course. If you want something chunkier, take a look at some of the large Bushnell models on the market.
