About this deal

After your allotted review period, you can retake the same tests and see how much you've improved. This will also monitor your progress for possible re-adjustment of your study plan. If this sounds like a lot of "study prep" before you even get to your test prep, you might benefit from exploring SAT prep options beyond using an SAT book list. Ultimately, if you're serious about SAT score improvement and want to study with top prep books, this is the guide for you. There are hundreds of books available for year six. We have selected ONLY the ones we think are most useful and included them below.

Subject-Specific Books: These are by far the best books to use to better your SAT Reading, Math, and Writing skills. There are a lot of "Best SAT Books" lists out there, but we think that most of them aren't very good or thorough. As a result, I've tried to write a much better guide here. Each test contains real questions given to actual students on previous administrations of the SAT. Without a doubt, the quality of official questions is far better than that of questions written by unofficial sources such as Kaplan or Barron's. It breaks down critical skills and grammar rules so you can study them individually. By learning the rules of grammar and usage, you'll be able to apply them to practice problems. Rather than just choosing an answer that sounds right, Meltzer's book will teach you all the rules you absolutely must know to get a good SAT Writing score. It's weak in reviewing Reading and Writing. While the book goes over the Math section in detail, its presentation of the two verbal sections is more limited and even a little unusual. Its review of the sections is more conceptual and experimental than it is specific to the SAT. For instance, the book features chapters with titles like "Language of Truth, Truthfulness, and Beauty" and the "Language of Dissent, Criticism, and Rebellion." While these sections might sound interesting to book lovers, they aren't really relevant to the SAT—a feature I consider critical when prepping for this unique, idiosyncratic test. You'll learn that the SAT is designed to be a predictable, standardized test. It needs to test basic concepts so that it can be administered nationwide to all students, but it also needs to be difficult, so it often distorts questions in a weird way.

Your best bet, therefore, is to find a book that can teach you math content in an organized way and give you practice problems you can use to focus on individual skills. It should also cater to your skill level since math questions that are too hard or easy for you will be a waste of time. Remember: Use Games and songs as well to keep things fresh – Here’s a good game you could try – Times tables plus snap card game English PreparationPlease read the preparation guide you feel MOST suits your situation then you’ll be able to see which of the resources we suggest you use and when. Answers and other materials have a lot of errors, indicating poor quality control. You'll probably notice many of these mistakes yourself, but if you don't catch them you'll learn the wrong facts and strategies. Not all students are fans of the overall layout and formatting of the book, which has small, crowded font and isn't very creative or engaging. It feels really weird to recommend not buying this book because, for years and years, this was the book to use to study for the SAT. This guide used to contain 10 full-length practice tests you could only get by buying the book.
