About this deal

The material the product is made from is often a sign of the quality for Waterproof Leather. Take a look at the product details over at Go Outdoors to get a feel for this. The design is aimed at a more limited market because it is so dark and heavy. But, if that is your thing and you want something nice and reliable for general use, the Peter Storm walking boots may help you out. This is due to a nice combination of the PU midsole, ankle support, and padding around the foot and tongue. The secure lace-up closure adds to the feel – although some have swapped out the laces for something more secure. They have gone out walking in wet grass and showers and not had any issue. But, then there are those that say it isn’t truly waterproof. You want the boot to support your ankle when the ground is unstable, but not be uncomfortable to walk in.

The shape of the boot, with its high lace-up closure, allow means a more supportive fit. There are no concerns from users about any ankle issues.

The best kids’ walking boots for 2023 are:

While there may still be some issues with the longevity of the weatherproofing, there shouldn’t be too many issues here as long as you get the right size. The construction and stitching are great, but the uppers seem to lose their weatherproofing over time. One user complains about the amount of aftercare needed to keep these shoes at their best. Using the table: Survey (conducted in March and April 2021) is based on data from 3,118 Which? members who own walking boots bought since 2016. ‘-’ = there isn’t enough data. Average price paid is based on the mean amount members paid for their footwear. Customer score is based on satisfaction and whether members would recommend the brand. Zamberlan walking boots Although the walking boots were soaked, it wasn't quite the same as a real downpour though: if you have waterproof trousers on, all that rainwater heads straight down to your boots, and if you've not protected your legs correctly (i.e. wear some gaiters - see here), your boots will fill with water.

Altberg is another top-scoring boot brand from our survey. Its roots were laid in Richmond, North Yorkshire, in 1989, and its factory is still there today – as well as a second in Italy. The boots are handmade and the fit is something members seemed to like, awarding Altberg the full five stars in this category. Survey respondents loved that they could buy boots in half sizes and various widths - suiting those with both wide and narrow feet. Not everyone can justify the money for a pair of high-end walking boots, especially when you have kids to kit out too, and perhaps you don't get out hiking as much as you would like. The sole is a Vibram sole, rather than a lesser name, with good grip. The uppers of the Peter Storm walking boots are waterproof – to begin with at least – and you also get a nice mesh lining inside.

The verdict: Kids' walking boots

There are some great comments from wearers of these shoes about the comfort experienced – both long term and short term. The boot held up well. No water came in, even when I held them under the water, completely covering the laces and the tongue. The Peter Storm Grizedale Walking Boots look like a great choice for women that want a feminine shoe that can still hold up to long walks and bad weather. The Peter Storm Rivelin Walking Boots have some nice details in the design to help wearers walk a little further.

Taking them up on the hills and through muddy forests, the boots have remained comfortable and dry.

Get Out With The Kids!

Zamberlan topped our walking boots survey. The brand was founded near the Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) mountain range in northern Italy and according to its customers, its boots would stand up to alpine terrain. Zamberlan’s boots, including many made from Italian leather, get the full five stars for comfort, durability, fit and water resistance. There are however some methods that you can use to determine a product’s quality without needing to physically have it.

The fit of the shoes and the cushioning of the midsole and ankle all allow for a nice feel around the foot and reliability for regular use. Also, some say that there was no need to break these in at all. But, that doesn’t mean that they are a bad choice in the short term. The fit and feel of these smart shoes are great for general use, such as dog-walking or weekend walks on the wetter ground. So, the Peter Storm boots could still prove to be a great choice. The downside to buying online is that you can’t actually get hold of the product to try it out first. Still, there are some complaints here and there about this Peter Storm Grizedale model to be aware of.Lets’ start with the comfort provided by this Peter Storm walking boot. There is a strong upper across the foot that reaches up into a nice padded ankle. This looks like it will be great for longer walks, but there is more inside too. There are various examples here. For a start, this is faux leather, not real leather – although this may make the shoe vegan friendly. Them, there is no brand name to the protective features or the sole – no Vibram or Gore-Tex. Even with these concerns in mind, these boots are still easy to recommend to those on a budget. There are enough positive comments from happy buyers to suggest it might offer value after all, as there are no complaints about comfort or waterproofing. The only issue I've had is that the 'lace hooks' occasionally catch against each other/ the other shoe - but this is because I walk with my feet very close together, and tend to trip on my own feet regularly. The seam on one of them looks like it's starting to go - and I'm disappointed the laces frayed so soon, and most recently the fast wearing of the sole now making these boots unfit for purpose. However, I did notice that they lost their waterproof coating. You can easily reapply this with products from the likes of Granger. However, I have since been testing a HiTech pair of boots, and so I haven't needed to treat them. Details Attribute
