About this deal

Using HDMI ARC does not require a new HDMI cable. Any HDMI cable should be able to cope with the requirements – it’s only when we move on to eARC that this could (potentially) become an issue. But more on that later. The bandwidth required for HDMI over Ethernet depends on the resolution and refresh rate of the HDMI signal. Colour can also be affected, as Category 1 and Category 2 cables haven’t got the bandwidth to convey the enhanced 10-bit colour depths, or Deep Colour, output by 4K Blu-ray players and 4K HDR consoles, let alone the 12-bit colour depth used by some Dolby Vision screens and 4K Blu-ray players. In a video matrix switching setup you can switch multiple digital or analog sources to multiple digital displays in any combination. Like this, HDMI signals can be amplified and easily routed from several video sources (e.g. PCs, DVD players, tablets) to various display devices (e.g. LCDs, projectors, etc.) and speakers. HDMI over Ethernet Products HDMI Splitters An IP-based controller applicance can be used to turn any video distibution setup into an AV matrix switching or even video wall control setup that enables users to place any content from any source to any display. When multiple AV receivers are combined into a video wall, users can create presets, specific content zones and control content remotely. The system’s mobile support enables users to easily access and activate presets from a cell phone or tablet device. Video Matrix Switching

Power Supply: Most HDMI over Ethernet extenders require a power supply to function. It can either be a separate power supply or powered through a PoE injector.

HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) and HEC:

It’s also worth mentioning that an HDMI cable with Ethernet costs mostly the same as any other standard high-quality HDMI cable. The Concept Behind HDMI Ethernet Channel Power: Some HDMI over Ethernet extenders require additional power to function, while others draw power from the Ethernet cable itself. Consider your power requirements and choose an extender accordingly.

Bandwidth: Another important factor to consider is the bandwidth requirements of your signal. Make sure the extender you choose can handle the necessary bandwidth to transmit your HDMI signal over Ethernet.Since 2009, HDMI cables have builtin ethernet capabilities, but not many people are using HDMI cables to connect to the internet. There aren’t even many devices that support the internet over HDMI. Why is that? Is it more efficient than ethernet cables or is it a useless feature? Should you buy an HDMI cable with ethernet? On paper, HDMI eARC also makes the handshake between compatible devices much smoother and negates the need to activate HDMI CEC (which doesn’t always work properly) - so operating multiple products shouldn’t require any extra steps to get things up and running. HDMI over Ethernet is becoming increasingly popular for use in home theaters, digital signage, and other commercial applications where long-distance HDMI signal transmission is required. How to Extend HDMI over Ethernet? While most HDMI protocols work over any standard HDMI cable, you should still look out for the ones that have “Ethernet” mentioned in the specifications to take advantage of the HEC functionality. However, some high-speed HDMI cables often omit the Ethernet channel to allocate more bandwidth to the audio and video streams.

It seems like the engineers of HEC failed to predict the massive leaps in wireless technology, so the feature kind of became pointless. Nowadays, most WiFi cards can transfer data much faster than 100 Mbit/s. This means all those high bitrate formats currently available on Blu-ray discs, 4K Blu-rays and some streaming services – Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and object-based formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X– will all be compatible.

To extend HDMI signals over Ethernet, you will need a few products. Here are the essential HDMI over Ethernet products you may need:
