About this deal

If you’ve set up a 4G router before then you’ll be in familiar territory here, and if not, you should still have no issues, as the ease of setup is one of the selling points of 4G routers, as you don’t need a landline (meaning you can also save money) and you don’t need an engineer to come out and hook your property up to the internet. Beyond that, the main difference other than the design is that the Three 4G Hub has four Ethernet ports, while the 5G Hub has just two. So if you rely on a lot of wired connections to devices then the 4G Hub actually has an advantage.

Once you’re online, the router will create a Wi-Fi network, just like your current Wi-Fi router, that up to 64 devices can connect to at once. It also has four Ethernet ports you can use to connect computers and games consoles to the router. That’s something to bear in mind if you were planning to house the Three 4G Plus Hub in quite a small space, but it shouldn’t be an issue in most homes. And size aside, it’s a reasonably good-looking device, with curvy corners and discreet indicator lights on the front. Setup

Specifications

At this point, you’re ready to connect to the internet, either by plugging a device into the router using the included Ethernet cable, or by connecting to the Wi-Fi network the router creates.

Alongside the improved 4G connectivity, you’ll be able to use Three’s 4G+ Hub app to manage your home network. It has a handy feature that allows you to set up your router and to get the strongest 4G signal on it. You can also see and manage the devices connected to your home network. In some cases, you might not be able to get 4G home broadband, even if you’re within the 4G coverage area as shown on Three’s 4G coverage map. If this is the case, you’ll be shown the following message: There are a number of alternatives to the Three 4G Hub, but if you’re signing up for home broadband directly with a mobile network (rather than buying a router separately and then finding a SIM-only plan for it) then the EE 4GEE Home Router 2 and the Vodafone GigaCube 4G are the main rivals.Unlimited Minutes: 30 day minimum term. Unlimited anytime calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles excluding the Channel Islands. 150 calls or 1000 minutes a month to 0845 and 0870 numbers. Three stand out among their mobile broadband rivals for providing lots of data at low prices - just what we want when we're looking at taking broadband on the road. They told their public relations company the same about the ZTE being the 4G+ thanks to its 4x4 mimo to differentiate it from the B535, I laughed at the woman and said: well the HUAWEI mobile MiFI is 4G+ and it hasn’t 4x4 mimo, it’s all rather confusing isn’t it. Available on selected enabled BT Mobile plans. 4G Calling also available on iPhone 6 and above – 4G connection required. Wi-Fi Calling also available on iPhone 5S and above - Wi-Fi connection required. All calls or texts charged as per your BT Mobile plan. Terms apply.

There are many advantages to 5G and 4G home broadband over fixed line broadband, along with a few potential downsides. Below we’ve highlighted all the pros and cons. Pros There’s also the Vodafone GigaCube 4G, which actually has the Three 4G Plus Hub beat for speeds, topping out at 1.9Gbps – though in reality your speeds will probably be far lower than that. Like the other rivals, it also supports up to 64 simultaneous connections. So there’s not a huge amount to choose between any of them – it will more come down to what network you want to be on (and have the best coverage for) and which plans you find most appealing. National Broadband offer a 5G and 4G home broadband service using infrastructure put in place by the UK’s mobile networks. That means they will offer you coverage from whichever network is best in your area.

Three 4G Hub value for money

Once the bane of fixed-line broadband users, traffic management is still employed widely to mobile broadband. In some regards this can be taken as a positive. Three employs a system they call 'TrafficSense', which (again, in theory) smooths out peaks and troughs of demand by 'seamlessly' rerouting bandwidth from low-traffic areas to where it's more needed. So it's less of an individual penalty and more a way of dynamically sharing the available resources where they're needed. It may result in slower speeds from time to tine, but taken as part of the wider mix of other factors, you shouldn't even notice it working.
