About this deal

Foil pipe insulation with a closed-cell structure offers high resistance to moisture ingress and permeation whichprotects pipes from moisture issues such as corrosion and adverse reactions. Phenolic foam is an insulating material utilised in a range of applications where higher thermal performance, fire and moisture resistance are important performance criteria. Phenolic foam insulation is usually lightweight, rigid but easy to install. Fire Resistance: Behind the pipe push the insulation so that each side of the split meets around the pipe. Then to ensure that it cannot become dislodged you should tape in in place. Sometimes people prefer to use cable ties, but it doesn’t really matter so long as the insulation is kept snugly fit around the pipe:

Water pipe insulation, or heating pipe insulation, can also prevent bacteria and mould from growing on pipes, which can affect how long they perform for and the areas surrounding them. If pipes begin to grow mould in a timber frame building they could spread this into the wood or even into surrounding insulation. Kingspan Kooltherm’s fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core ensures excellent fire performance. This foam pipe insulation has a densely cross-linked structure that makes them difficult to ignite. Because of the superior fire performance of kooltherm, it can be used for insulation of pipework in building services Insulating an isolation tap in a loft – Image courtesy of B&Q Further Projects to Consider After Lagging Pipes

Also, since Kingspan phenolic insulation works most efficiently in the temperature range of -50°C to +110°C, they function as the ideal pipe wrap, not only to maintain the temperature of hot water but also to protect pipes from freezing. The length of the insulation: Generally the insulation will come in 1 or 2 metre lengths but this can vary depending on retailer. Chose which suits your project best, but remember as you cut and bend it to follow the pipes you’ll use more than you expect As we mentioned you will typically use the foam type insulation which have already be cut with a slit so that it can easily be fit over a pipe: T-shaped bends: First, trim a 90-degree wedge out of the main portion of pipe insulation to form a piece of insulation that covers a T branch. To create a point, cut the tube's end that will be connected at a 90° angle at two 45° angles. After that, insert the pointed end into the main tube's 90° cutout. To seal the joint, put the foil tape around the T-piece

Due to its closed-cell structure, phenolic foam pipe lagging from Kingspan Insulation restricts moisture ingress. What's more, they also have foil facings on the outside, that act as an additional moisture barrier to the application. The process of applying the lagging to your pipes is relatively straight forward, especially if you have the right tools for the job. However before you start it is worth making sure you are safe to start. When working in loft ensure that you have the correct safety gear (mask, gloves, etc) and that you are supported where you work. You don’t want to accidently put a foot through the ceiling! Its CFC-free and HCFC-free certifications ensure that it is both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. You shouldn’t lag pipes underneath your tank in the loft, or in fact put any insulation under the tank at all, as you need the heat from the room below to keep the water warm and flowing. Types of Pipe Insulation for LaggingWhen you get to a 90° bend in the pipe you should cut the pipe insulation at 45o on each side of the bend. They will then join making a perfect join. Pipe is an industry standard pipe size found in most domestic heating and plumbing systems. Insulating your heating and plumbing pipes will ensure the system runs at maximum efficiency by reducing heat loss. Felt or Wool pipe insulation; These are “sleeves” or rolls of natural insulating materials which can be wrapped around the pipes to insulate them Kooltherm technical pipe insulation is also rated Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold, which means this foam pipe lagging does not harm the surroundings or its air quality in any way. Best pipe lagging for confined spaces:

Central heating pipes – all central heating pipes should be lagged as they go to the radiators. Eg pipes under wooden floorsKingspan Kooltherm insulation has a low thermal conductivity of 0.025 W/m*K, making it the most thermally efficient pipe lagging available. Low thermal conductivity means this phenolic foam pipe lagging does not allow heat to pass through its fabric easily. Kingspanpipe insulationsections have been developed to give optimum performance in terms of insulation efficiency, compressive strength, fire resistance, and most importantly, cost. It gives excellent value for money. Occasionally you will get bend in the pipe which you will need to follow with your run of insulation. The easiest way to deal with this is to notch our 30° cuts from the inside of the bend in the insulation.

In terms of the tools you are going to need, here are the likely ones that you will need for fitting pipe insulation: Kooltherm sections have a high-performingouter foil face vapour barrier which prevents moisture from reaching the phenolic material within. Kingspan Kooltherm is made with phenolic foam. But, what is phenolic insulation or phenolic foam insulation? For straight runs:Measure the length of the pipe you have to insulate. Wipe the pipe surface clean and free of any oil or debris. Cut the Kingspan Kooltherm section using a sharp utility knife and slide it over the pipe. Use foil tape or adhesive to seal the ends of the insulation together.Phenolic insulation is crafted through a process where a plastic foam serves as the insulating base between two sheets of flexible tissue. It has a high concentration of sealed cells and an intricate cell configuration. Rigid phenolic insulation is made by combining high solids with phenolic resin and a surface or foaming agent. Top Tip: Use a bread knife of similar serrated knife for cutting the foam insulation as it is much easier. Sturdy scissors can be helpful for notching out insulation (see below how to insulate bends in pipes). Phenolic foam is known to have little to no effect on sound waves. It does not absorb sound waves like mineral wool or fibreglass pipe insulation sections. Therefore Kingspan kooltherm is not the right product for you, if you are looking for some acoustic pipe insulation. Can you use Kingspan pipe lagging for outdoor pipe insulation? It's only really bested by Aerogel pipe insulation, which is not something that is widely available due to its cost and difficulty to install. Therefore it could be said that Kingspan pipe insulation isthe best pipe lagging if judged by its ability to thermally insulate pipework alone. It is easy to install and works well on all kinds of pipework across project types.
