About this deal

There are 5 vents in total, so this looks quite good. Two of them are high vents on the front, and you also have two floor vents on the sides in the sleeping zone. Yet another very large high vent is on the narrow side behind the sleeping zone. Other features In the lab they stretch a bit of tent fabric over a tube and fill with water slowly till water seeps through the fabric... The inner tent is a dark rest design. This means it is a darker material on purpose to reduce glare and to let you sleep longer in the morning. This is a new trend in the tent building industry, please see more about it in my separate text. You can see a long list of such dark rest tents here. The doors I touched on it already, the Rydal 500 offers a decent amount of space for an entire family. Sleeping area The frond door has zippers on both sides but it does not have at the bottom. This is a design thing and there’s a gap between the groundsheet and the front door on almost every tunnel tent.

I’ve always wanted to write a Eurohike Rydal 500 review just to let everyone know how brilliant this tent is for a family. In fact, it is a brilliant entry-level tent not just for families, but for everyone from 2-5 people occupancy. Climate-wise, note that this is a fully enclosed shell so there is no mesh on the ceiling. It may become warm in such a tent if you use it in a very warm and sunny climate. I see it better suited to a cooler environment.

So let’s have a look at the features and some of the most common issues with the Eurohike Rydal 500 Who is the Eurohike Rydal 500 For? Other manufacturers would not recommend ‘frequent use’ ie. more than a few weeks across the whole year. UV light of the sun can (will) break down the waterproof coating, so if you pitch the Rydal 500 in your garden in May, it is likely that it will lose some or most of its waterproof coating by the end of summer. Eurohike Rydal 500 Porch I wouldn't worry too much about it only being 2000mm HH. It is unlikely to leak directly through the material itself. My very first large tunnel tent was a Eurohike of only 1500mm HH and it weathered many a storm, although the seams leaked which was typical of Eurohikes at that time (about 13 years ago). I would hope the seams are now taped and properly sealed. At the time of writing this post I could not find a bespoke footprint for the Eurohike Sendero 4, but the Eurohike Air 400 footprint is compatible with the Sendero 4 too – get the Eurohike Air 400 footprint here. The Coleman Mosedale 5 is another popular alternative: very similar to the Rydal 500 size-wise, but the fabrics (both flysheet and the groundsheet) are a big improvement compared to the Rydal 500 – again, reflected in the price. Detailed review of the Coleman Mosedale 5 here.

so a 4000mm (4M) HH is 2x as water proof as a 2000mm fly sheet (outer skin) tent... which equates the the chances of getting water misting inside in heavy rain fall The shell fabric is polyester with a 2000 mm waterproof rating. So this is a great number and this should be enough for any rain in a 3-season use. They do not provide info about the groundsheet rating, it is probably the same rating, and it is fully sewn-in and all seams are taped. Needless to say, a 5-berth tent these days is not for five grown-ups, but rather for a family of five where the children are under 10 years or so, but hey ho… Eurohike Rydal 500 ReviewYou can put the Eurohike Sendero 6 on the list too, it is bigger than the Rydal 500 but not much bigger, and has great specs. Detailed review of the Eurohike Sendero tents here. There are hanging loops for lanterns, and you also have Velcro tabs to pass and fix a cable at the apex pointon the ceiling.

You have two very large doors with flaps. Note that there is no mesh on these entry doors, pity. The front door allows for an awning configuration with the help of your trekking poles, see the picture belowThe Sendero 4 has great water-protection: the polyester flysheet received a 2,000 mm HH waterproof coating, the seams are taped. The groundsheet is sewn-in (!!) which is not at all common at this price-range. The air-beamed sibling, the Eurohike Genus 400 for example does not have a sewn-in groundsheet. Inside you have two inner doors for the two sleeping rooms, they are indeed with panels and with mesh for ventilation and protection against insects. The Rydal 500 in the awning configuration. The windows There isn’t a bespoke carpet for the Rydal 500, but it is compatible with the Eurohike Medium tent carpet– again, not expensive and helps a lot protecting the groundsheet.
