About this deal

In February 1924, six months later, Bobbie returned to Silverton mangy, dirty, and scrawny, with his toenails worn down to nothing. Another pressing concern?Water. In this arid region, water resources were few and far between. Bobbie’s survival depended on finding the occasional creek, pond, or simply hoping for rain or snow. Food was equally scarce.

During World War I, dog breeds such as Collies, Retrievers, Sheep Dogs, and Airedale Terriers were used to carry messages between battle stations on the Western Front in Europe. Their intelligence, bravery, and navigational skills while carrying important messages helped save many lives. They had many great traits that allowed them to make significant contributions to the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. But they were also human, weak, and fallible—just as you and I are. Some found themselves at variance with the Prophet Joseph Smith and fell away from the Church. Later, many of the same people had a change of heart, humbled themselves, and once again sought and found fellowship with the Saints.

Since the beginning of time, God’s prophets have urged the people of their day to “hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, … keep his commandments and his statutes … , [and] turn unto [Him] with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.” 3 He was the subject of newspaper articles including Ripley's Believe It or Not!, books, and film. [3] [2] Bobbie played himself in the 1924 silent film The Call of the West. [3] [5] He received hundreds of letters from people around the world and was honored with a jewel-studded harness and collar, ribbons, and keys to cities. [3] In the summer of 1923, Frank and Elizabeth Brazier departed Silverton, Oregon on a 2,500 mile road trip to visit relatives in Frank’s home state of Indiana. Accompanying them were their daughters Leona and Nova, as well as their two-year-old Scotch collie named Bobbie. Fierce winds plagued the region, whipping up sudden and unpredictable dust storms that made Bobbie’s navigation and resting time extremely difficult.Food and water were scarce, as with all desert regions.

In Portland, an Irish woman took care of him for a period of time, helping him recover from serious injuries to his legs and paws. Bobbie died in 1927. Doctors suggested that his early demise was as a result of the strain of his journey catching up with him. He was buried at the Humane Society’s pet cemetery in Portland. Rin Tin Tin, a German shepherd who was a Hollywood film star, later laid a wreath at his grave. Kent, Judith (2004). Silverton's Bobbie: His Amazing Journey—The True Story. He had traveled for six months over 2,500 miles, covering approximately 14 miles a day! Frank, Elizabeth, Leona, and Nova were overjoyed, hugging and kissing Bobbie over and over. They fed him mounds of food and soaked him in warm baths, then covered him in warm blankets. Bobbie’s heart almost burst out of his chest in happiness! He had found his forever family and he was HOME! He slathered them with wet kisses, jumped on their laps, and raced around in happy circles. This was the best feeling in the world! Bobbie knew it then: there’s no place like home and he had found his! Bobbie, driven and resourceful, likely used other scents and cues to help him navigate, such as water sources, animals, trails, or even humans. Let’s break it down. Dogs have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to a measly 6 million in humans. He could also rely on his instincts and acute senses to detect environmental changes, providing him with valuable information for navigation. Bobbie’s journey stands as a testament to his incredible resilience, determination, and instincts. Some might suppress this yearning and deaden their souls to its call. But those who do not quench this light within themselves can embark on an incredible journey—a wondrous migration toward heavenly climes. God Calls to You
