About this deal

Lastly, I was wondering about the ASIAir +. I've read a bit that it may not be the most perfect marraige with the Celestron NexStar mounts. Is it possible to simply use the ASIAir to only connect to the camera (and not connect at all to the mount)? Then just use it to control the camera? Though I'm sure this is an expensive solution for camera control only (especially without auto-guiding) I really would like to control the camera via smartphone app versus the need for a small laptop. Saturn’s rings are easily visible, as is the Cassini Division within them, the latter provided you have good sight. Around half a dozen moons can be spotted, along with faint variations in the tones of Saturn’s cloud bands. Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, is visibly not a star and appears a slightly gold colour. Four decades later, we've improved upon this design by adding cutting-edge features, while staying true to our founders intent.

The Celestron NexStar 6SE comes equipped with much sought-after StarBright XLT lens coatings and an internal computerized system. Despite its smaller aperture and somewhat narrow field of view, many deep sky objects can be seen in detail. Large globular clusters are an exciting view under dark skies, as well as some of the brighter galaxies like M51, M31, or M33. The long focal length of the 6SE also allows for the observation of small planetary nebulae, such as M57, Caldwell 39, or Caldwell 63. Here are some other features that I have been thoroughly impressed with: Variable and High Magnification GPS Accessory, that comes with extra cost, required if you do not want to enter your local time, date and location with each new use. All of the planets of the Solar System can be observed, but the detail depends on the planet itself. Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars (at opposition) can be seen in great detail, with gaps between Saturn’s rings, sharp cloud bands on Jupiter, and polar ice caps on Mars. The phases of both Mercury and Venus can also be seen.Software and firmware problems did not crop up as often as SkyAlign issues, but some people still had issues with it. Manual Is Still an Option T he Moon has a ridiculous amount of detail, with features as small as a mile visible. We could go and write paragraphs about how great the views of the Moon are with the 6SE, or arguably any decent telescope, but we couldn’t possibly do it justice, so we’ll let the views speak for themselves. Once you get over 5” in diameter for the primary Aperture of any telescope, you start to get into what I consider large-bore telescopes, and that is where the best light gathering ability starts coming into play. The Astro Fi mount is also controlled via your smartphone or tablet rather than a hand controller. The optics are the same as those in the Heritage 130P tabletop Dobsonian.

I've spent at least 6 months reading through a ton of incredibly useful information on this forum -- now my first question/post. One very convenient feature of the 6SE, along with all other Schmidt-Cassegrains, is the ease of use and collimation. Collimation of the optics only requires the secondary to be adjusted, which can be easily done with a defocused star, a Phillips head screwdriver, and some patience. This makes the Nexstar more user-friendly and less intimidating for first-time astronomers. The few bright emission nebulae that dot our skies look magnificent in the 6SE, particularly if you use a good UHC nebula filter on them. The Trapezium star cluster’s fainter members, nestled within the heart of the Orion Nebula, are an easy catch. Planetary nebulae look decent with the 6SE, and some begin to show teal or blue coloration.

But... I saw the hype around the HyperStar v6 and decided to jump on it. Now I know this is a whole different topic, but it is something to consider. The HyperStar will turn that OTA into an astrophotography machine. I wouldn't recommend it too early though. It has a steep learning curve. especially collimation.

The 6” primary aperture on this Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope is an excellent size for capturing the wonders of our galaxy and beyond. Celestron has included a 25mm Plossl eyepiece, a red dot finderscope and a mirror star diagonal. This is on top of the tripod, database remote, and computerized mount that all already come included. For planetary imaging, pair your NexStar 6SE with one of our Skyris cameras. Or, experiment with wide-field deep sky astroimaging by replacing the telescope’s secondary mirror with a DSLR or astronomical CCD camera with a Fastar/HyperStar lens assembly. From your first observing session and for years to come, the NexStar SE is your trusted companion. read less

It is a little disappointing that Celestron could not add in one of their other power options that are less annoying than pure AA battery use into their telescope kit. However, there are still plenty of accessories that come included. All you need to do is point it in the direction of three bright stars and the computer technology will intervene and complete the rest of the alignment. This table shows the number of distinct astrophotographers who have been assigned and IOTD/TP award compared to the total number of images awarded. The StellaLyra 8”/ Zhumell Z8/Orion SkyLine 8 is a similarly great bargain to the larger AD10/Z10, though if you can afford the larger of the two models you’ll be rewarded greatly as the overall weight and bulk difference between a 10” and 8” is nearly immaterial. The telescope itself is mounted to a stainless steel tripod, ensuring optimal sturdiness and rigidity, and the single-fork motorized alt-azimuth mount makes it a cinch to control.
