Once the swimmer has completed three complete strokes, stop the stopwatch as the fingertips enter during the 4th stroke. Coaches should use their stopwatches to record the individual swimmer’s lap/length splits and possibly their stroke rate. In my experience some swimming parents, are only too willing to help, some may even be qualified pool officials and can be a great help.

This FINIS Stopwatch will simplify improving lap times. We know time is everything and, when it comes to swimming, accurate timing makes a good swimmer even better. This allows for 300 splits and review of both cumulative and lap splits. Plus the battery lasts approximately 5 years! However, throughout the season, some swimmers focus on many different competitive objectives to enable them to achieve their swimming goals. The swimmer starts this drill in the water, from the middle of the pool of a 25m pool. (or 12.5m from the pool end for a 50m pool) Once the swimmer has completed three complete stroke cycles (a left-arm stroke and a right-arm stroke = an arm cycle) stop the stopwatch as the left-hand fingertips enter the water for the 4th time.

Why should I use a FINIS Swim Stopwatch?

In the measuring mode, the stopwatch shows a three-line display. The bottom line runs from 0, the line above it shows LAP TIME, or the time of one round. The row above shows SPLIT TIME, or the total time from start to lap time after a given number of rounds.

To test the effectiveness of a swimmer’s racing start, a coach should record a swimmer’s racing start speed. Lap split: A lap split measures the time frame in between each cumulative split time. For example, if your cumulative split shows a lap completed at 10 minutes then another lap finished at the 20 minute mark, the lap split will measure the time frame in between those two laps. Sometimes, your gear just ain't what you expected, or maybe it was your birthday and you scored 2 of exactly the same thing - we get that!If some lanes are swimming in different sets, then by using two stopwatches it’s possible to time two separate lanes. At the right bottom, you can find the MODE button with you can switch between the 4 modes. The first one shows the date and time. Press the MODE button again to switch the stopwatch to the measuring mode.
