About this deal

You'll get a better per-ml value by paying the higher up-front cost for a larger 17-by-22-inch model, such as Canon's Pro-1000 or Epson's SureColor P900. Inks for those machines cost 70 cents and 83 cents per ml, respectively. (And, of course, you can print significantly larger photos and artwork.) As pleasing to the eye as the prints it produces, this photo printer has been beautifully designed without compromising print quality, reliability and functionality. Therefore the SC-P700 is clean, compact, and its discreet design blends into most creative workspaces or home studios. Also, the Epson SureColor SC-P700 is completely sealed to protect against dust/dirt.

I’ll use printing one of my B&W test prints as an example. Here’s a more normal printer display, albeit with progress bar and time estimate. BTW this estimate was pretty accurate. The print trays and feed are all more robust than their lightweight design could suggest to some. This is a printer for the home, not a lab full of students. If you’re a fan of printers built from girders and cast iron, then prepare to be disappointed. The line of ‘L’s is good and straight showing that there’s no undue crunching of shadows. This is printed using the default ‘darker’ setting for ABW (no – not a name for the ‘default’ I’d have chosen either…)In addition to writing hundreds of articles for PCMag, over the years he also wrote for many other computer and business publications, among them Computer Shopper, Digital Trends, MacUser, PC World, The Wirecutter, and Windows Magazine. He also served as the Printers and Scanners Expert at About.com. The posterboard setting has quite big end margins. I’m printing an 1890’s map of the area round my home, which includes my then recently built house. A soft art paper needed feeding from the front slot when I noticed some leading edge marks from the paper feed roller when used with the top slot. Top paper feed

The Epson Media Installer software is an optional software install, which can be used to acquire media settings and profiles. It’s meant to be a route for all paper suppliers to make profiles/media settings available for the P700. At the moment, there is no ‘user’ access to the tools for doing this. It’s discussed in more detail in the P900 review. Minimum Ink Droplet Size: 1.5 picoliters; Variable Droplet Technology can produce up to three different dot sizes per line Though the imagePrograf Pro-300 doesn't support paper rolls, you can still print banners up to 39 inches long. And – there you are mostly wrong – the ink-costs of the Pro-1000 is more than 2.4-times cheaper than the ink-costs of the Pro-300. 14.4ml of ink for the Pro-300 cost about 15€ and 80(!)ml of ink for th Pro-1000 just cost 35€ which is 2.4-times cheaper!! I’m told that the full range of profiles has been delayed as a result of the current pandemic. Epson Media Installer

Also included with the Epson SC-P700 is a 4.3in LCD optical touchscreen for more intuitive printing. Additionally, this Epson SureColor printer also includes mobile and cloud printing functionality, working with Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print, for example. Higher quality print settings on the P700 do give a slightly enlarged gamut, but as I’ve noticed earlier, unlikely to be obvious in most prints. The touch screen If you’re serious about your photography, and intend to produce a lot of very large, extremely high quality photo prints, then the P700 will serve you well, but if you are a more price conscious user, or you are not printing regularly, then a cheaper model, like the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000, would suit you better. The printer has Ethernet (10/100), USB (3) and WiFI connectivity (2.4 and 5). The wired ports are at the rear, under a fold out panel.

Depending on the size of the print there are two options for making wide panoramic prints. One uses sheets of paper cut to the right size, whilst the other uses roll paper. If you’ve a perfectly good working P600, then I’m not going to suggest rushing out and buying an all new printer. There are lots of improvements that may tempt you, but to suggest your prints will somehow be loads better is to imply that the P600 is in some way deficient. It isn’t. If you’re currently using a simple office or All-in-One printer then the potential jump in quality is worthwhile. New 10-channel MicroPiezo ® AMC printhead— consistently delivers prints with outstanding speed, consistency and accuracy The Epson SureColor SC-P700 is the professional photo printer that prints up to A3+ size and is ideal for photographers. The Pro-1000 is the largest printer reviewed here, capable of producing prints 17 inches wide, making it fantastic for making prints for walls or for any other large format use.
