Minder, Raphael (14 June 2002). "Remy uncorks profits, up 12%". Financial Times. Companies and Finance: Europe. p.1.

BOLS FIRM TO GET NEW JERSEY PLANT; Building in Englewood to Be Erected for Old Liqueur Concern of Holland". The New York Times. Section: Real Estate. 23 July 1947. p.39. Ervan Lucas Bols, Inc., liqueur concern of Holland, wall [sic] have its first American plant in Englewood, N. J., Lawrence W. Pugh, technical director of the company, announced yesterday. You will find the gin to be very aromatic and filled with rich flavors, making it a true delight for any gin lover. Maraschino, a clear Marasca cherry flavored liqueur Bols makes with Kirsch and a selection of herbs Although “oude” refers to the old style of producing jenever, there is actually now a tendency to age the spirit in oak barrels too. Nevertheless, this is not a requirement for its production. In 2004, Bols launched a new ergonomically shaped bottle, developed with the help of bartenders to best suit professional use and even flare bartending - no coincidence perhaps the bottles resemble something between a bowling pin and a juggler’s club.

Several contributions to the Quarterly Magazine of the Dutch bottle collectors club "De Oude Flesch" by Lodewijk van Sint Maartensdijk. 1979–1995. Whatever the type of jenever, the process will consist of at least two distillates. The first one is a triple-distillation similar to whisky. The chosen ingredients is the deciding factor of what type of jenever is being made. For instance, a predominantly malt grain distillate will result in Oude Jenever. They may well have settled in Amsterdam slightly earlier but even the 1575 date makes Bols the world’s oldest distilled brand. The evidence of the 1575 date is found in a 1763 family document where the writer talks about his great-grandfather starting the family distillery in 1575.If you look at the list of botanicals in Bombay Sapphireyou will notice a few differences from other London dry gins. Grains of paradise, almond, and cubeb berries are not your average gin ingredients and they help this bottle stand apart from the crowd. Although some of us call it the malty granddaddy of gin, genever is very much its own spirit. Because of its malt bill, it’s actually closer to whiskey than gin. Both genever and gin use juniper berry as a flavoring agent, but gin’s base is a neutral grain spirit mixed with botanicals, whereas genever is made with a mash of malted barley, rye, and corn. Like whiskey, genever can also be jonge (young), oude (old), and is sometimes aged in oak. But Bols also produces gin Firstly, jenever is served in a stemmed tulip glass similar to Polish karczmiak flutes for vodka. This is filled until the spirit’s service tension allows it to rise above the glass’ brim without spilling. Traditionally, the first sip is taken by leaning forward with the glass on the table to avoid spilling it. In 1818, a financier from Rotterdam, Gabriël Theodorus van 't Wout, acquired the Bols Company with the contract of sale including a condition that the company could continue to use the Bols family name in perpetuity. Theodorus had no previous distilling knowledge and he had taken over a neglected business which was in trouble. He became a hands-on, self-taught distiller who also learnt from the employees he had inherited. He turned a loss-making company into profit within the first year.

Aviation's choice of a rye base gives this gin a creamier mouthfeel than most gins. It is a gin that you can enjoy chilled on its own, which is great news for super dry martini fans. Parfait Amour, a purple colored Rose petal and orange liqueur, with a hint of vanilla. Another of Bols' centuries old recipes. Fill a shaker with ice and add 2 dashes of bitters, 15ml Sugar Syrup,15ml Dry orange liqueur, 30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice and 75ml of Oude Genever. Furthermore, juniper has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. Therefore, jenever can be used to help with coughs and sore throats, especially when used in combination with other herbs. For instance, ginger can be an excellent addition when using jenever as a remedy.

If you have yet to taste genever, it is unlike any other gin you've had. This style of gin is as if a soft Scotch whisky were married with gin, and Bols' malty feel is a perfect example. Based on Lucas Bols' original recipe from 1820, it has a wonderful balance of sweet malt and subdued juniper and citrus. It is triple distilled using equal parts malt wine and neutral grain spirits that are infused with natural flavors. Martin Miller's is a modern take on traditional gin. It has that wonderful juniper dominance of a London dry and it is perfectly balanced, crisp, clean and simply an extravagant gin. There is a beautiful gin inside this distinct green bottle with its red wax seal. Tanqueray's crisp, dry style is the benchmark for a London dry gin without any citrus in the botanicals. It is a standard to which all other gins are compared and contrasted and also sells for a reasonable price. Bols Genever is distilled from a malt wine grain base composed of wheat, rye and corn that were fermented alongside juniper berries. 22(!) botanicals are present in total. It is is then rested in oak for a minimum of eighteen months before bottling. Tasting Notes

Red Orange liqueur. A bright red, sweet blend of citrus and tropical fruit such as passion fruit and peach.During the First World War, however, grain imports struggled. Therefore, producers turned to distilling alcohol from other ingredients such as sugar beet molasses and potatoes. As a result, this became known as “jonge” or “new style” jenever. Today, drinkers can enjoy the diversity of gin.Unlike vodka, each bottle of gin is truly unique. The majority feature some degree of the pine flavor that comes from juniper, which is gin's signature ingredient, yet no two bottles have the same combination of botanicals. After two short-lasting joint ventures with first Heineken and later Wessanen – and then a buyout by CVC Capital Partners – Bols was taken over in 2000 by Rémy Cointreau. As for gluten, many brands and experts will argue that the distillation process removes gluten from the grain. However, people with celiac disease are probably better off not taking the risk as there have been reports that it causes adverse reactions.
