About this deal

The significance of this sensor placement is less pronounced when you’re using these types of probes for larger pieces of meat over extended periods of time. The clear plastic cover for the charger/signal booster is also a nice touch and helps keep the rain out when you’re cooking outside. This NutriChef Bluetooth thermometer is an affordable option that has everything you might need for basic grilling and monitoring remotely. It connects to a smartphone app with an indoor range of 100 feet and an outdoor range of 200 feet. If you wander outside the range, you’ll get a push notification so you won’t accidentally go too far from the grill or oven. The stainless steel probes on the PWIRBBQ60 model can withstand up to 482 degrees, while the upgraded stainless steel cables can withstand up to 716 degrees.

The ambient temperature sensor that is located in the ceramic handle is responsible for measuring the cooking chamber temperature. Not only have we tested the MEATER multiple time, but many of us also have it in our own kitchens. "You can choose from a list of pre-set temperature settings by food type and cook style—roasting, smoking, searing, etc —and you can create custom cook settings to save for later use," says Steven Schrimpf, our procurement and inventory manager. "I LOVE this feature as I am constantly experimenting with different recipes and methods."There are variables that can affect these readings such as probe placement in the meat and the location of the heat source so it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions about which probe is the most accurate.

You most likely won’t achieve 500 feet. But then again, most people don’t need that type of signal range for a typical grilling or smoking session. You can either choose to use these temperatures or create your own by pressing the add button at the bottom of the screen. Effectively Manage Your Time: Wireless grill thermometer App takes the guesswork out by estimating how long to cook; Set up ambient pit temperature alarms and cooking pre-alarms that trigger within 5°F/10°F/15°F of the target temperature! MEATER, the "first truly wireless smart meat thermometer," improved upon its original model with the MEATER Plus. Many wireless grill thermometers aren't totally wireless—there's often still a wire from the thermometer to the base unit—but the MEATER Plus is completely wire-free. Plus, it's really two thermometers in one: It will measure the internal temperature of your meat as well as the ambient temperature and can be safely used in the oven up to 527 degrees Fahrenheit. The TempSpike is the only wireless meat probe I’ve tested with the internal temperature sensor located in the actual tip of the probe. This makes it difficult to gauge how far to insert the probe into your meat to find its thermal center. There is no WiFi connectivity for the TempSpike. It is strictly Bluetooth. If you stay within range of the booster this isn’t a big deal. Bluetooth Range

I want this completely wire-free technology to work, but I think it’s halfway there with just one of the two temperature sensors that are trustworthy. For those of you who only care about when you’re food is going to be done and aren’t concerned with how your meat is reacting to changes in cooking temperature then this isn’t going to be a huge issue. If you're willing to give up some of the TP20's more advanced features, such as presets, ThermoPro also offers its TP08S Digital Wireless Meat Thermometer, which has the same wireless range and temperature range but costs a little less.On a positive note, you are able to set your own custom temperature settings in the app so it essentially solves the problem. You can also make notes for each temperature setting and set alarms to go off throughout the cooking process (e.g. “Go Spritz Your Brisket Now”). Final thoughts The Signals thermometer includes four probes—three are high-temperature cooking probes and the fourth is for measuring air temperature inside the grill or other cooking chamber. The app allows remote monitoring of the temperatures using both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so there are no worries about getting out of range of the base. It recharges via a USB cable/power plug and can run while it's plugged in, which is great if there's a very long cook. The internal temperature sensor in the TempSpike’s probe tip has a heat tolerance of up to 212°F. You need to insert the probe into your meat up to the notch to keep this sensor from getting too hot. This is complicated by the fact that most of the wireless meat probes I’ve tested are generally accurate in measuring internal meat temperatures. Again the TempSpike is no exception. I’ve tested and reviewed all of the top wireless meat probes to find out if any of them are worth your time and money. How does the ThermoPro Temp Spike measure up?

There is also no WiFi connectivity possible with the TempSpike. This is a helpful feature should the Bluetooth signal cut out for some reason. ThermoPro produces many highly-rated thermometers and I’ve reviewed most of them. How does the ThermoPro TempSpike compare to the popular models? Its range and incredibly versatile app are just some of the great aspects of the ThermoPro TempSpike. This waterproof thermometer is able to hold a charge for up to three months, and the probe can be used for up to 36 hours before losing its charge. Additionally, the charging case itself is a signal repeater for extending its range and has a built-in speaker in case you're not paying attention to your phone. If you’re using a thermometer with a rechargeable battery (like the MEATER), it’s important to always return it to the charger when after each use. The last thing you want is to reach for your meat thermometer when you need it most, only to find the battery has died. For thermometers that require disposable batteries, be sure you always have extra so you don’t run out mid-cook. And, as with all gadgets (especially ones you use for cooking), store all of the components together. The TempSpike does a lot of things well. Its Bluetooth range is solid and its IP67 waterproof rating is great. The USB chargeable booster is nice added feature as well.Remove the probe from the charger and press the add device button and the app will connect automatically to the probe.
