PUMA Men Magnify Nitro Running Shoes

Personal: A ( Like I said earlier this is in the running for trainer of the year from me (3 in the running at the moment), soft yet responsive, durable, and consistent throughout each run at all paces) The Puma Magnify Nitro is an exciting shoe in terms of comfort and ergonomics. It’s well-padded, especially the collar and the tongue, but the front section of the upper is not as forgiving as the Novablast 2’s. It’s not uncomfortable by all means, but it certainly provides a tighter fit.

Overall it was a comfortable run and I’d happily take this out for longer jaunts and easy runs. Where can I buy it? Overall: A- ( A very good option to the highly cushioned training category. Many of these types of shoes feel like clouds that you are balancing on, but this shoe feels like a traditional training shoe that you can run almost every run in that has all of the maximalist qualities you could want in a shoe.) The hold is secure but not suffocating and is anchored by a stout but not totally rigid heel counter with appropriate padding that, like the upper, doesn't overdo it. Stability: B+(Stable in the heel, less so in the midfoot, then transitions into a better forefoot. Good use of subtle sidewalls, unique use of TPU plate in rearfoot, dual layer midsole adds stability. Could be a bit better through the midfoot ) The overall feel is that of a lightly springy shoe, more so in forefoot than heel, that has plenty of stability.Adidas Adios 6 review - A complete retake on the workout trainer, featuring lightstrike pro in the forefoot Derek: I wear US9.5 in both shoes, though I probably fit a US9.0 best for the Magnify. Endorphin Shift has the smoother and faster transitioning geometry, but the Magnify has the more energetic and softer underfoot feel. Magnify also has a much better outsole in terms of grip and durability. If I were going for a steady faster long run, I would probably go with the Endorphin Shift, but for a slower more controlled effort, I think the Magnify is the more forgiving option. I did notice that extra room in the toe box when I was running and I’d have liked to have gone down half a size to feel a bit more secure in the shoe. The midsole features 38mm of buttery soft foam blending their nitrogen-infused NITRO foam along with their high-rebound EVA called ProFoam. This leads to an up-tempo ride on even your easy days and definitely aids in leg recovery. We have been fans of NITRO since they launched it and more of it is making us very happy.

Performance: A ( This is exactly what I want out of my daily trainer. Cushioned and protective, but still with enough bounce to keep me from feeling flat. The transitions are smooth throughout and the ride holds up mile after mile)Derek: At first glance, you would think this is a single density, all Nitro foam trainer. Actually it is a dual density setup, with the Nitro foam above, and a firmer more stable foam called Profoam Lite below. I don’t have any information on this foam, but it feels like compression molded EVA. Sam: Derek is correct in his take here but it depends.. If you are a less speedy, a heel striker, are looking for a more mellow paces long run to daily training shoe or need a touch of stability the Magnify may be a better choice. For speedier efforts I would for sure reach for the Boston 10 before Magnify but for all other purposes the Puma is more versatile and easier to tame. Reasonable weight at about 10 oz / 283g for such a big shoe at 40mm heel / 30mm forefoot : Sam / Dominique Dominique: PumaGrip rubber creates a durable platform with firmer rubber in the heel and blown rubber in the forefoot. A decoupling groove enhances the forward motion of the foot upon landing on the firm rubber in the right lateral side of the heel with a toe-off on softer and bouncier rubber in the left forefront of the foot.

PUMA has only given us a few color options across most of the NITRO line, but they all worked pretty well and the Spectre colorway on our Magnify demo unit looks great. We’re hoping they’ll broaden the pallet as they move the lines forward. Although the upper is well perforated and comfortable, the shoes run long, and I would recommend going a half size down. The upper is soft and expands well, so the tightness shouldn’t be an issue.

Personal: A ( My trainer of the year so far. The transition is fantastic, the midsole/ride is smooth and this seems to work very well for my mechanics. Even though it looks like it shouldn't. I would like to see the midfoot a bit wider in the next version though) In the line-up, they work really well shared with other NITRO models given the consistency of the upper design. Using something like the Liberate or Deviate on your speed and tempo days, this becomes a really nice counterpart for recovery. It’s also a much easier to shoe to take for distance and you’ll really enjoy the extra amount of structure up top as you just feel like you’ve got more control. Construction: UpperAnd running-wise, they are just awesome. Having long been fans of brands like HOKA who have really leaned into high cushion long-run shoes, this feels like a very natural progression for someone like PUMA. The Magnify has a lot more pop in them than you might expect so even on those easy days, you get a little extra that you weren’t expecting out of them but you are still able to run comfortably and save the legs a bit. Derek is in his 30’s and trains 70-80 miles per week at 7 to 8 minute pace in mostly tropical conditions in Singapore. He has a 2:41 marathon PR. Well balanced seamless gradient of softer springy Nitro through somewhat firmer Profoam Lite through to the outsole: so plenty of cushion and response without being over firm or overly mushy.
