About this deal

The final thing that this anniversary set could do without is the sound effects that are at the very bottom of the record. From the “Tank Start Of Show,” or “Firehouse Siren (Tour Sound Effect)” it is just silly and unnecessary to add it to the record. It’s just random and awkward sitting at the end of the record and takes up space from potentially other music being added. All in all, I did not like this add-on to the record. One of the really fun things on this set is those tour sound effects: the tank, the turbine, the siren, the bells, and the flames. Can you explain how some of those things fit into the show at the time?

One tour, a new drummer (Eric Carr), and a whole record later (1981’s “Music from ‘The Elder”), Ace Frehley left the band prior to 1982’s “Creatures Of The Night” despite appearing on the record cover (pictured bottom middle). Before we get started, I would like to say that since this is an anniversary release with too many songs to do an overall ranking, like the Guns N’ Roses review, there will be no rating, just a review. The Blu-Ray Audio disc is the album remastered in surround sound as well as Dolby Atmos. I did get Surround Sound for Christmas and so I put this in and I will be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the surround sound effect of the album. Don’t get me wrong, it sounded great, the drums were huge, but it didn’t feel as immersive as other 5.1 mixes that I have. I was a little disappointed. I thought the Destroyer album’s 5.1 was so much better. What is neat about the anniversary edition is, like the 45th-anniversary edition for “Destroyer,” is that they added original demos, Penny Lane demos, and Gene Simmons demos to the record so fans can get a sense of what some of the Kiss songs sounded like at the very beginning before they made it to the final cut or before they got reworked into other songs. We were coming out of a coma. I think we suddenly realized how much we had veered away from what the band started as and what we believed in. We had really become complacent and more concerned with enjoying some vapid rewards of success than making great music and staying true to our roots. We were stumbling around, and suddenly, I think we just found ourselves going, “What the hell are we doing here? And look what we’re on the verge of losing.” Maybe, for some, how serious we take what we do, and that it’s not one-dimensional and not done lightly. We work at things, plan them, and try different things, and it’s an all-consuming endeavor. We don’t take what we do lightly, ever. We don’t like things to look labored over, but they’re labored over. Degraffenreid, Joe (June 29, 1999). "Adam Mitchell Interview 6/29/99 -- KISS Hell Exclusive". KISS Asylum.com . Retrieved March 29, 2022. The remastered songs sound nice and crisp, it’s one of my top five Kiss records, so I think each song sounds great. I do believe that this record is more on the underrated side when compared to some of the earlier records or even some of the later records like “Revenge” or “Psycho Circus.”

Instead, the band released Music from "The Elder" in late 1981, a concept album originally intended to complement a film called The Elder that was ultimately never filmed. Despite confidence from producer Bob Ezrin that this would recreate the success from 1976's Destroyer, the album did not improve the band's status, and on the contrary, further diminished Kiss' US fanbase, failed to achieve gold status, and having cancelled their US Unmasked Tour just a short time before, the band then called off the planned tour for Music from "The Elder." [4] On Friday, Nov. 18, the “hottest band in the world,” Kiss remastered and re-released their 1982 record titled “Creatures of the Night” for the 40th anniversary. With some Kiss Klassics like “War Machine,” “Creatures Of The Night,” and underrated songs like “Saint and Sinner,” you can’t go wrong with this anniversary edition. Josephes, Jason.
