About this deal

It's important to note that the specific quantities of the ingredients will vary depending on the recipe you're following. Make sure to follow a trusted recipe and adjust the ingredients accordingly for the desired taste and sweetness level. What Does Cherry Cider Taste Like? Sugar: Additional sugar may be added to enhance the fermentation process and increase the alcohol content. This is optional and depends on personal preference. It's recommended to use a non-fermentable sugar, such as lactose or maltodextrin, if you want to retain some sweetness in the final cider.

Founded in 2002, independent, family-owned Sandford Orchards is based in Crediton, Mid Devon in the oldest working cider mill in the UK. The area has long been known as one of the most fertile parishes in all of Britain, both for its grazing and ability to grow apples. Crediton sits in the lee of the moors, so receives the right amount of rain and the right units of heat in summer. To make a cherry cider I have experimented with adding cherries at the beginning of the ferment, toward the end of the ferment, and a mixture of both, adding cherries at the beginning and toward the end. I seem to get better cherry flavor by adding the cherries toward the end of the ferment, so that is what will happen in this recipe. This Spice Apple Cherry Cider is a delicious way to warm up this fall. It’s simple to make in the slow cooker and a hit for any autumn celebration. Yeast: Yeast is essential for the fermentation process. It consumes the sugars in the apple juice and converts them into alcohol and carbon dioxide. There are different types of yeast available, and you can choose one that suits your taste preference. Some popular choices for cider making include champagne yeast or cider yeast. Besides the good smells, amazing flavor and warm fuzzies, one of my favorite things about apple cider is all the different variations you can create. Combining apple cider with other fruits, spices and herbs can open up a world of flavors that exist in your little cup. Last year I made Hot Buttered Apple Cider with rum and a few years ago this Apple Cider Mimosa, which are both incredible. However, this year I wanted to make something that was equally delicious but more appropriate for my children. This Spiced Apple Cherry Cider fits the bill! And even better, it’s made in the slower cooker so it’s a true hands off recipe.

But you don’t have to wait for fresh cherries; you can use frozen cherries or tart cherry juice available at many grocery stores. Availability and cost of fresh cherries rule them out for many people, but there are other options available.

In addition to the cherries, this recipe also calls for two oranges. Citrus season in the United States is actually in the winter and since we are entering that season soon, you should be able to get some delicious oranges right now. I kind of love that the Spice Cherry Apple Cider bridges the beautiful fruit from several seasons. Conditioning: For optimal flavor development, let the bottled cider condition for at least 1-2 weeks in a cool, dark place. This will allow the carbonation to further develop and the flavors to mellow.

Barny Butterfield, Chief Cidermaker at Sandford Orchards comments: “ We wanted to expand our range of fruit flavoured ciders and we were looking for an English fruit to complement our English cider apples. I was reading up about the history of cider and came across a mention of Mazzard cherries being added to cider in the sixteenth century. Inspired by this, we created our own version and it seems those old cider makers knew what they were doing. We are delighted with our Wilde Cherry cider, our new interpretation of their old idea!”
