About this deal

The “grid pattern” is rigid to ensure a secude heel hold, and the vertical stripe brings heaps of reflectivity for night runners.

This sole I found to have a nice density to it, and by that I mean it’s not Mushy. It is definitely not by any definition the softest midsole available but fits comfortably between firm responsiveness and a soft pillow feel. They are very comfortable with just the right amount of cushioning for any distance and terrain. Renee: Again, Jermey and Jeff have all the specs covered. I found the midsole on the “soft” side with some bounce in the ride. I found the midsole comforting instead of mushy. I like the traditional ride (i.e. no Speedroll) when running off-pavement, so the midsole provides a good balance of usage for me.Renee is a former U. S. Marine journalist, which is when her enjoyment of running and writing started. She isn’t that awesome of a runner, but she tries really hard. Most of her weekly 50-60 miles take place on rural country roads in Nebraska, meaning mud, gravel, dirt, hills, and the occasional field. She has PR’s of 1:30:59 for the half marathon and 3:26:45 for the marathon For marathoners around 3h-3h30 who want to preserve their legs but still get a responsive run, without going carbon-plated (and some people still don’t like them due to the rigidity of the midsole) I think the Triumph is a safe bet. The Triumph 19 feels light and has a crisper ride to it. Does that make sense? I just think it has a nice pep to it. It also feels very soft. I think some people will love the softer ride of this shoe. It did lose some of the responsiveness it had in the Triumph 18, but in return, you get a nice comfortable ride. I enjoyed using this shoe for long runs and easy runs. What’s Special About the Saucony Triumph 19? Top Three Things:

The result of the Saucony Triumph 19’s soft, responsive cushioning is a smooth and lively ride. Runners appreciate this shoe’s flexibility and energy return, which few competitors can boast at this level of comfort. Jeremy: Marketed as a faster shoe, I think that those two fit the same purpose of long distance responsive comfort.

The first change I noticed is how much lighter the Triumph 19 is compared to the 18. In fact, it’s almost a full ounce lighter. This makes all the difference when you’re on those long runs. Renee: The Triumph 19 is a great option for a long, easy/slow day shoe, especially for runners who prefer traditional riding shoes that are stable. The weight is a bit heavier than I would prefer as compared to some other options, but the cushioning is nice without feeling mushy. Plus, the shoe’s geometry and outsole make it durable and useful for pavement and buffed gravel/dirt surfaces.

The fit is TTS, and as we say, fits like a glove in my usual 10.5US/44.5EU, with the right amount of space in front of the toes.So far I can’t tell much how different from its prédecessor it is, but I can tell that the Triumph 19 proved me a bit wrong in thinking it was a “limo for cool days and not much” kind of shoe. I should have listened a bit more to a friend of mine that had an excellent experience with the previous iterations! The Sonic 3 can handle long miles, but I find that my legs were more tired after long runs than in the Triumph. On the up-tempo side, I do not find the Sonic Accelerate much more efficient, and it may be due to its lower weight. Renee: Both shoes fall into the heavier, long-run shoe category for me, weighing about the same. In a women’s size 8, I have more room in the toebox (almost too much) in the Phantom. The Phantom 2 is a lower-drop shoe with the same amount of rubber coverage on the outsole. Underfoot, the Triumph 19 feels more comfortable. Choose the Phantom 2 if you need a big toebox, low drop, and firmer midsole. The Phantom 2 might be slightly better at “faster” paces because of the firmer midsole. Otherwise, go with the Triumph 19. Some reviewers welcome the use of recycled materialsin this upper. There’s certainly a demand for more carbon-neutral footwear in general (for information, Brooks did it with its Ghost 14,which is carbon neutral, in addition to being 100% vegan). Even if Saucony doesn’t provide the exact amount of ecological materials used in the upper, it’s still a welcome initiative.

Jeff: I know we’ve said it a few times in the last six months, but this year’s shoe is virtually identical to last year’s shoe under foot. Busting out the calipers, I can’t find a difference in proportions anywhere, and it’s easy to see that they are incredibly similar. I’m a huge fan of the Triumph line-up and here are my top three favorite features of the Triumph 19: The Softer RideOne problem I did have with the shoe during the 80km of testing is that on a couple of runs over 16km long where I was progressing the pace, I developed uncomfortable hot spots under my forefeet. They came and went in the later stages of the run, and it wasn’t something so painful that I had to stop or slow down, but it was a bit surprising given the amount of cushioning. I really like the look of the Triumph 19, the shoe has a classic vibe to it, a very sleek looking running shoe with some eye-catching colors.
