Listen, do y’all recognize this play they’re about to run? one of the book's strengths is its well-rounded cast of characters. scottie's angst is relatable, and her love interest irene is amazingly powerful. i loved watching their dynamic shift as scottie learns there's more to irene than her popular cheerleader mean girl image. their relationship is sweet and ridiculously romantic. and it becomes remarkably healthy, especially considering the fact that it stems from fake dating drama!! I think this book was really your typical heartwarming YA novel, complete with the tropes and cliches we all know and love. It was super light and funny, but with a good balance of angst and character growth, which made it really enjoyable. This has the one-bed trope which I love, of course. But, I feel like the author could have definitely done more with it. It was quite brief and not super developed or elaborated on. There wasn’t any of the “they woke up in each other's arms” thing which was a little painful and just a waste of opportunity, really. I just know it could have been done so well; it could have been cold because of the ac and stuff so they'd have to hold each other to stay warm, or the nightmare trope possibly.
