About this deal

Despite all of the beheadings, the relic destruction the rounding up and murder of ethnic Muslim minorities and all of the rest of the misery in that part of the world, none of which was in any way caused by Israel, Waters is fixated on the Palestinian injustice. It seems to arouse him more than any of these other issues, or at least that’s how it appears.

Das Mastering wurde auch hier von Doug Sax durchgeführt.Die Dynamikwerte sind super und von Übersteuerung keine Spur. The 2021 4LP 45 RPM 180-gram vinyl edition of Amused to Death features remastered audio completed by longtime Roger Waters / Pink Floyd collaborator and co-producer, James Guthrie, and has been pressed at RTI in California. Voraussetzung ist natürlich, daß man mit der melancholischen, anklagenden Stimmung der Musik klarkommt und jemand ist, der sich hinsetzt und das alles bewußt auf sich wirken läßt, der Musik nicht nebenbei konsumiert. The album concludes with three extended pieces, which many consider the climax of the album. “It’s a Miracle” is very sarcastic in content, with a tight composition and catchy melody. It highlights Waters very sharp satire with lyrics such as;

Perfect Sense, Part 1” takes its “end of innocence” cue from “2001: A Space Oddity” visuals and then meanders into futility, hopelessness and endless cycles of violence exacerbated now by the invention of nuclear weapons. Absolutely fantastic. I have not ever experienced a record such as this. Sound stage is off the charts. I have sounds/details coming from nearly behind me (two channel stereo....of course). Amazing. Clarity is unmatched. Four thumbs up. I could go on, but I'm gonna go listen more. Buy this. It is really good.

If you have the CD, buy this record. You will be glad you did, the clarity and range are off the charts. If you have never heard this work (I envy you because you get to hear it for the first time) buy this record put it on and turn it UP and you will be blown away! The album ends with the title tune, in which alien anthropologists visit earth absent human life and conclude that, grouped around television sets and mesmerized by the message, the human race “amused itself to death”.What it is, is Waters’ final comment on our culture of reducing everything (death, wars, revolutions) to light entertainment; that all that suffering happened so that we could sit and watch TV. Waters takes shots at the empty music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and in the most personal lyric on the record exclaims “I wish when I was young, My old man had not been gone”. Waters’ father was killed in WW II combat on February 18th 1944 when Roger was but five months old. There’s a growing industry today that’s trying to figure out what inspires well-to-do, well-educated young people to drop everything and travel to the Middle East to join ISIS. I suggest they all listen to this record. It does an excellent job of explaining the paralysis that infects the “watching society” and helps explain the “doing society” (even if it is positively evil, beheading doing) that’s attracting these young people. I have not heard the 2015 vinyl nor the original vinyl. My references are one or two listenings of the 5.1 bluray mix and a regular CD rip from my parents. Personally I find the sound itself astonishing. Easily one of the best sounding records I have. As for the Q sound, it is not something I've particularly noticed. Could be my setup, could be this mix. The effects are great but I can't say I've turned around looking for any missiles or dogs. Es wurde sogar "Q-Sound"-Technologie eingesetzt, welche eine besonders holographische Abbildung der Musik bewirkt.

When Amused to Death came out (1992), I found it a little bit disturbing. While a wholehearted Pink Floyd/Roger Waters fan, there were philosophical elements of the lyrics that made me uncomfortable. I recall the first time I heard this recording: I was with my friend at his brother's house. My friend's brother had a nice stereo system (for the time), and it was the first time any of us had heard this CD. The experience started out well enough, beyond expectations really, but when the ladies started singing "What God Wants," my buddy took the CD out of the player and said "You can't handle any more right now" and we left. It was that bizarre. Despite all that, this album has remained one of my personal favorites over the years, even though I could generally only listen to it by myself (because of the lyrical commentary). Amused to Death was over five years in the making due to his feud with his ex-bandmates on the rights to the Pink Floyd name amongst other things. Roger's third solo album's sound was a return to the sound of his tenure with Pink Floyd unlike his two 1980s works (The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking from 1984 and its 1987 followup Radio K.A.O.S.). ACOUSTIC SOUNDS EDIT***- Yes, This recording is in Qsound- We can assure you that it sounds as good as you imagine!Preceding this new mastering, the original audio has been newly mixed, once again by James Guthrie. Der Sound ist, wie schon erwähnt, bahnbrechend gut, dies gilt für die CDs und insbesondere die Schallplatte von 1992. Absolutely superb pressing and mastering job. Congratulations to everyone involved. A+++ demo quality. I'm thrilled! Former Pink Floyd bass player/singer/lyricist Roger Waters released his third post-Pink Floyd solo effort Amused to Death in September of 1992.
