About this deal

Try this if you are a patchouly lover.. maybe it was interesting on its time of launching but now.. with so many perfumes with the hype of patchouly sweet scents this is nothing so special.. I tended to hate patchouli as a main component in most perfumes, as it tends to give a very dirty earthy vibe which reminds me too much of wet foliage for some reason. Even when blended with fruits or florals, it’s easy to become completely overwhelmed by the herbal-ness quality that I’ve often find myself a little queasy. Being that said.. this ultimate 70s disco diva that we have here.. mmm.. as this fragrance.. doesn't convince me that much.. I mean, I remember very well the time when this perfume was launched and the ad by Lynch but the fragrance itself could have been more special and different at that time (2007-8) the 70s reference was sort of original and the scent was something bold and very very strong, almost marketed as an exclusively night time perfume I would say but.. I tried it yesterday at a shop near my home and I saw they had at least 10 unopened boxes of this, the lady in the counter was very kind to spray it on a card for me to try.. but I was sadly dissapointed... It is very STRONG.. it is full of patchouly... and.. This is not the case with Gucci, as that “wet plant” quality seems to have been noticeably curbed, the patch here feels lush and opulent. It maintains a dark and boozy personality throughout; while the honey adds to the warmth of this fragrance, the patchouli stays cold and mysterious. Guava and pear top notes are subtle and are quietly overshadowed by the tiare flower which gives this fragrance a very tropical floral accord. Sillage and longevity are very good on me and I absolutely love the dry down, it smells like wealth, power, and seduction…this is confidence in a bottle.

Gucci by Gucci gives me a very fresh patchouli vibe (you won't get a classier patchouli scent by the way, trust me), but at the same time it's also very creamy. I didn't think these two thing could go together, but they do! Sometimes I wonder whether it's because they just can't anymore - whether some crucial constituent has ceased to be available, and they would rather scrap it than be putting-out an inferior generation of it. At least that would make sense ... infact not only make-sense, but show-forth a certain integrity. The green guava scent adds a decent amount of sweet juiciness, and the patchouli *really* grounds it (an 'earthy' pun? What a win). The patchouli is wildly noticeable here, so if you hate patchouli; it's pretty much guaranteed you'll hate this. Tiare flower is a more tropical flower, but...I honestly don't find this perfume particularly tropical as such. The honey is quite the nice and is absolutely most noticeable in the dry-down. It certainly mingles with the ever-present patchouli. P.S. Is anyone else a little bewildered by all the scents by Gucci called..."Gucci"? How many do we need? Can we get a team together who can conjure up some more original names? I suggest someone in marketing. And again.. Rachel is beautiful on this ad.. but I totally prefer her on the Chloè ad.. maybe she's the same diva.. she wears Chloè Love for the day.. then changes her outfit for a sexy golden one and spritz this Gucci for night.. but sorry.. doesn't transmit that 'narcotic' vibe thats on the commercial (and yes.. Im looking again to Lynch and his ad for Opium de YSL.. that was sooooo transportative en evocative, the good old days) I stood there with my phone and looked up all of them. No to the Oud, too manly. No to Made to Measure, too boring. No to Vanitas, too similar to Chloe, which I despise. No to Light Blue, has been reformulated and is now screechy. Occasionally though, I would splash a little touch of it, more to get done with it than anything else. Sure enough, with time, I have come to love it, and how. I LOVE, love, love it. The initial burst of guava, honey, patchouli and musk smell super sexy to me. It has this sweet, smoky, sultriness to it that I adore. At the same time, it smells (and IS) expensive and classy.

If its discontinued there are some "similar" (in some cases better) options: fancy nights by jessica simpson, prada amber pour femme, Indigo by l'erbolario.. Whenever I see this perfume, I think of KathleenLights, because she really loves this one. I can see why. It's a sweet, honeyed patchouli, with an interesting guava note. The guava doesn't read as straight up fruity ripe guava, but a perfumey guava, sweet in a fruity way, like a guava filled pastry, to give this perfume that something unique it needs to prevent it just being another patchouli. I love this frag because in my opinion it perfectly balances the aggressiveness of patchouli with all the other sweet notes: it's a women's scent, but it does never get too feminine. It's a heavy (probably because of that patchouli and white floral tiare flower) womanly scent that's kind of reminiscent of "Ricci Ricci" (not scent-wise at all), and the added sweet, luscious honey makes me think of a wealthy aunt who gives bear hugs and loans her over-the-top jewelry. And of course the gorgeous bottle and advertisement can't go unnoticed. This fragrance really evokes a distant luxury, a modernist vibe from the '70s perhaps. Not very romantic or glamorous, but still quite elegant and... natural. More Farrah Fawcett than Doris Day :-)

But, and there is a but unfortunately, as is almost fated to happen with the fragrances we love most, it’s gone in the time it takes me to walk around my house! - Okay, it isn’t that bad, but one hour after layering lotion and fume, it’s all but gone. There's only the slightest, lightest hint of musk. I’m so so disappointed by this aspect. I’ll just have to get a small size and carry it around with me on days (or rather nights, since this is an evening fragrance) I choose to wear it. Does last longer when sprayed on clothes, but sillage is next to non-existent *sigh* Working in a store that carries fragrances is both exciting and daunting. So many fragrances to research! Haha I don't find this to be a fragrance for 30+ as others have said, though it wouldn't be appropriate for a teenager. This frangrrence says "Hello! I am a confident and sexy woman. I know what I want in life, and exactly how to obtain in it." I don't understand the patchouli note in this scent. I don't smell it – at least not in the traditional hippy way. Nor am I getting it in an earthy way, as is in Prada Amber. Nor is it green. What I am getting is a gorgeous, satiny wood. I am really amazed by that considering there is no wood listed in the notes for this fragrance. If I were to visualize this fragrance it would be glossy, like a sleek, smooth, polished piece of ebony wood. The fact that this has no wood sent me on a search to find out more about the Patchouli plant itself. I was able to find out that there are several varieties that are shrubby, and the sap is often extracted from their woody stems and put to various uses. The most widely used this way is Java Patchouli, which is prized for its sleek wood notes. If this is the type of patchouli used here that could explain the beautiful wood notes I'm smelling. This scent is me. I love it and wish that all of me smelled like this, my home, my whole life. Wonderful fragrance that is powerful yet quiet. Sweet, fruity, honey-like, powdery and fresh at the same time. It is unlike many other fragrances which makes it unique. Absolutely a miracle. I am a big fan of everything from Gucci, but Gucci by Gucci is outstanding. A luxurious, rich, feminine scent! I often get compliments when I wear it, both from men and women. The only negative is that the smell does not stay that long, but I combine Gucci by Gucci's lotion with the perfume, which helps the scent to stay longer.

A strong in your face patchouly with a slightly hint of something sweet that I imagine can be the guava note.. but its nothing more than that.. I have some perfumes with patchouly.. even though I have the famous Gucci Rush (patchouly bomb, but well maded.. with layers and many other original notes) on the other side this one is sooooo linear and boring.. reminded me of a 70s vibe and yes, that strong almost balmy note but I expected to change in something elese.. any evolution but nothing else than a plane patchouly which only becomes more earthy and dirty... (for example.. I have a bottle of the cheap 'fancy nights' by jessica simpson and its similar but way much better than this expensive one) What an interesting fragrance to review! The first thing it made me think of was a red gummy bear or other small fruity sweet (guava+pear+honey?) fallen on skin covered in creamy oily smelling suncream (tiare?). Sort of nostalgic, feminine, almost but not quite girly atmosphere. At the same time though it has the feeling of being perfectly polished, like a dainty young lady who always has perfectly manicured nails and wears skirt suits. Not at all me, so I felt like I was wearing a young, classy woman's (very nice but somehow wrong) perfume, not MY perfume. I think it is perfect as the first "real" perfume for a young, feminine and very well dressed woman (not girl) or anyone exploring their soft/feminine/classy/pink side. Gucci by Gucci is a perfect mix of comfortable, slightly dark, grown up, confident and cozy. The image I get is of a woman in a designer outfit dressed to impress and knowing what she wants. She is rich and she is not afraid to show it. Gucci smells very expensive and chic to me. And this is a bit strange because the composition does not strike me as overly complex or refined for that matter but yet it smells expensive and lavish. I’m not a fan of Gucci in general, I quite like bamboo and once used a bottle of it after a blind buy on a plane, but gucci by Gucci is such a stunning scent, so well put together I don’t even have words to describe how it smells. For those saying it doesn’t last maybe it’s a bit of noseblindness? As although the sillage isn’t huge, this lasts so long on me, I can literally smell it the day after I’ve sprayed it. Love it. When taken as a whole, this composition is very rich. The fruit, honey and spice notes are very light, seemingly only there to accentuate the beautiful patchouli. I'm not getting Tiare outright but there is a creamy, buttery richness to this composition that could only be attributed to that. But it is the Patchouli that is the star here and in its present form is extremely seductive, sexy, and glamorous.

I really like patchouli but it's hard to find a patchouli that doesn't smell old and musty. Tom Ford's White patchouli is sadly a good example of that. But this is the mother-ship of that idiom! ... the one that sets the bar. I loved it instantly the first time I tried it ... I can't remember exactly how long ago - but a fair while; and even now I can't fathom what it is that it smells like; it just is what it is - it smells like Gucci Gucci& gorgeous& inscrutible, and that's about all that can be said, really - it's such a beautifully integrated whole - sufficient unto itself! When this was still available in stores, I accidentally soaked my whole nose area with a leaky tester bottle that I wanted to sniff. Of course I didn‘t try it again soon, and then it was gone from the shelves. I remembered it as a sharp but good fruitchouli, and got me a sample not too long ago to retest, mainly because I love guava scents. Later, when someone asked me what perfume I wanted as a gift, this was the one I wanted. So much for disliking it. This is like a dark dreamy forest where magical and mythical classic book fairytales come to life (this is what I picture as the memory of this scent is so enchanting many pleasant surreal things spring to mind). There is something mysterious and haunting about this perfume and almost something slightly edible. This is perfectly balanced and ideal for both men and women. The patchouli isn't nasty or harsh/overpowering, every note is beautifully complimentary in perfect harmony.
