About this deal

Last year in August we brought you detailsabout this emerging panel technology from Samsung, a rival to the common OLED panels produced by LG.Display and used across the OLED TV market. Samsung’s QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) uses organic OLED material as the light source and Quantum Dot (QD) material as a film. It will be more similar to Samsung’s own AMOLED used for mobile phones and LG’s OLED TVs and will mark the company’s return to the OLED segment. This monitor shines on being a standalone entertainment streaming device. But it has some issues trying to act like a simple PC monitor. I'd get the Alienware versions. The Odyssey OLED G8 also gives users comfort as they play their favorite games. A Height Adjustable Stand (HAS), as well as Tilt functionality, provides ergonomic efficiency which means any gamer can find the perfect position regardless of what they are playing, whether it be a racing game or an open world fantasy adventure. The monitor also has an sRGB clamp that can be activated by changing the Color Space option to ‘Auto.’

This issue relates to a software problem and is only temporary. The service is expected to be resumed by early August. As soon as a software update becomes available, please update your software to reinstate the Game Hub service. Gaming was incredibly addictive. The Samsung OLED G8, like all OLEDs, has next-level video processing with no need for overdrive or strobing to achieve perfect motion resolution. Whether viewing Blur Busters test patterns or mowing through monsters in Doom Eternal, the screen responded instantly to control inputs and detail in both near and far views remained razor sharp. This is enhanced by the panel’s tremendous contrast which makes rendered objects look truly three-dimensional. The internal speakers are of good quality and included multiple sound modes along with some user tweaks like balance and eq. The OLED G8 supports Dolby Atmos sound which normally requires at least seven speakers. But here, some clever phasing effects do a decent job of expanding the sound envelope. Dolby Atmos is most notably supported by Netflix and Apple TV+. The OLED G8 supports AirPlay which means you can stream music and video to it from a phone or tablet. We know a bit more about the screen now from Samsung’s announcement and showcase at IFA in Berlin during September 2022. As well as the specs listed above the screen has a 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99.3% of the DCI-P3 colour space. Unlike the Dell AW3423DW and AW3423DWF, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 doesn’t have a cooling fan and its DisplayPort has DSC support, allowing for 3440×1440 175Hz with true 10-bit color depth. The super slim frame with the premium metal finish and mesmerizing Core Lighting+ to upgrade your gaming room.

The ultra-wide, QHD resolution (3,440 x 1,440) gaming monitor has a 21:9 aspect ratio with 100% color volume and DCI-99.3% color gamut for incredible visuals regardless of the game being played. This is enhanced by a million-to-one static contrast ratio to bring out the most subtle details for enhanced immersion and 1800R curvature for the perfect playing view. An obvious comparison with the new Samsung G8QNB is the Alienware AW3423DW, the first commercially available QD-OLED monitor, that uses the same Samsung panel. A few things that could make a significant difference:Added the LG 45GR65DC and 45GR75DC 44.5″ 5120×1440 200Hz super-ultrawide curved VA gaming monitors. There are a grand total of ten display modes. Five are dedicated game modes, while the rest are suited for watching videos, movies and TV shows. The five game modes in question include Standard, RPG, FPS, RTS and Sports. How did the display do in our lab tests? When we pointed our Klein-10A colorimeter at it, we found that the Odyssey OLED G8’s screen achieved an average brightness of 240 nits of brightness in Standard mode. That’s on par with the Alienware AW3423DWF (236 nits) but much dimmer than the Acer Predator X32 FP (404 nits) in their respective standard modes. That said, the Odyssey OLED G8 achieved 357 nits of HDR brightness across 10 percent of the display in our testing, which is fairly bright. So far so good, I'm really enjoying the monitor and the amazing picture has me absolutely mesmerized! Moving on, keep in mind that QD-OLED panels have a triangular RGB subpixel layout, which causes minor fringing on tiny text and fine details. It’s not noticeable in games and videos, and most people won’t be bothered by it at all.

The OLED G8 comes with a tiny remote that charges through a USB-C port at the bottom. It covers all monitor functions though it is not very intuitive. Fortunately, the operating instructions are in the OSD. Once I figured it out, it was easy to tweak menu settings for gaming or operate the Smart TV apps. It’s based on an IPS panel with a fast 1ms GtG pixel response time speed, a wide 98% DCI-P3 color gamut and DisplayHDR 600 certification, indicating a peak brightness of 600-nits and some sort of (most likely edge-lit) local dimming.

If you have recently experienced issues with the Samsung Game Hub, where the Game Hub disappears from Samsung Home, or when attempting to run a game, or the error message “(app name) has been terminated and is no longer available” displays, please do not be concerned. Samsung is aware of the issue and have begun taking steps to resolve the problem. Smaller footprint could be helpful. The AW3423DW is not as heavy as IPS panels, but still takes up a lot of desk space. With 10-bit color depth, the AW3423DW and AW3423DWF models are limited to 120Hz and 144Hz, respectively, but there’s no noticeable difference when using them at their maximum refresh rate with 8-bit color as the GPU adds 2-bit dithering anyway. Price & Similar Monitors The Picture menu has a full set of calibration controls that you won’t need. I found that the Samsung OLED G8 measured nearly perfectly right out of the box. With Game mode turned on, there are no picture presets, but you can calibrate the image if you wish by accessing the Expert Settings sub-menu.

They also announced the KTC M32P10S, the first 32″ 4K 165Hz mini LED gaming monitor with a VA panel.

Further, it has 4K UHD resolution, which will look very sharp even at this screen size due to the high pixel density of roughly 116 PPI (pixels per inch). For the best HDR results on the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, we recommend using the ‘Custom’ Picture Mode and making sure ‘Game Mode’ and ‘Peak Brightness’ options are enabled. ‘Game HDR’ should be disabled and ‘HDR10+ Gaming’ set to ‘Advanced.’ Most of the display’s modes produce oversaturated colors, which I personally quite liked. Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077 benefit greatly since both have colorful worlds. In Standard mode, the display covered 183.3% of the sRGB color gamut and 129.9% of the more demanding DCI-P3 color space (closer to 100% is best), with a Delta-E value of 0.12 (closer to 0 is ideal). We saw these values across most of the available display modes. that violates any law, statute, ordinance or regulation (including, but not limited to, those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination or false advertising);
