About this deal

Bruce Springsteen wrote BLOOD BROTHERS in early 1995 in celebration of the brief reunion of the E Street Band — he had disbanded the band in 1989. In the liner notes of his 1995 Greatest Hits album, Springsteen simply wrote, "It was good to see the guys." Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award-winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail). In retrospect it was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Being forced to get the story down in this compressed form, keeping it as swift and lean as possible meant that as well as fulfilling the commission for Paul and his company I was also, unknowingly, creating the book of what would later become Blood Brothers the musical – helped, probably in large measure, by the fact that the process had enabled me to sidestep the pressure of having to confront the enormity of writing a full scale musical. All that was yet to come. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. The cast of the Blood Brothers 2022 Tour. Take #31" is very similar to the official studio version, slightly slower with small lyrical variations.

Featuring memorable music including “Bright New Day”, “Marilyn Monroe”, and the show-stopping “Tell Me It’s Not True”, the captivating tale sees twins separated at birth, only to be reunited in a cruel twist of fate. Cast The West End production of Blood Brothers ran for 24 years where it became the third longest-running musical in West End running for over 10,000 performances. An unofficial solo acoustic take remains unreleased. See the unofficial studio version 2 for more details. The 6th take is a fascinating one and the arrangement can only be described as heavily Dylan-inspired with a organ riff that's pure "Like A Rolling Stone". It features plenty of harmonica and some lyrics that are unique to this arrangement. At the conclusion Springsteen says, "Well that's the idea anyway!".The Narrator, who throughout the play breaks the fourth wall to help the story progress and act as a moral compass. He also plays other characters at various points, including: Policeman, Milkman, Judge, Finance Man, Catalogue Man and Bus Conductor. Miss Jones, Mr Lyons's secretary, who, after initially firing all of the workers, is fired from the firm herself as a result of the 1970s recession. In 2013 Blood Brothers was produced by the Harvest Rain Theatre Company of Brisbane playing the Cremorne Theatre 3–17 August: directed by Tim O'Connor, the production featured Amanda Muggleton in the role of Mrs. Johnstone. [13] Muggleton had previously played Mrs. Johnstone in the Metcalfe Playhouse ( Perth) production of Blood Brothers which ran 11 November – 4 December 2011. [14] Donna Marie Johnstone, one of the elder Johnstone children, who was looking after Sammy when they were little and he fell out of a window; by Act II, she is married with three children. The cast remained substantially the same as that at Liverpool Playhouse with Kate Fitzgerald taking over the role of Linda and, later in the run, Robert McIntosh taking over as the Narrator. But in my mind’s eye this mother was a contemporary character in a contemporary urban setting, walking along the side of the East Lancs Road, past the Sparrow Hall flats and the rows of council houses, a gaggle of kids straggling along beside her. I knew that this woman was pregnant again. And although she didn’t know it yet, I knew that this time she was expecting twins. And one of those twins was going to be given away.
