The ROM is now a hybrid softshell jacket that uses Gore Windstopper material over the hood, shoulders and upper chest and arms. This tough, warm and weather resistant jacket aims to keep you pleased with its softshell, this extremely versatile jacket has a lot of uses in colder weather. The ROM closes with a midweight YKK zip which is closed at the bottom (hence no easy belay loop access). At just 345g (size L) the Morphosis is certainly lightweight, though thanks to its fleece component it is less compressible than some unlined models. The pockets are large enough for a bottle of wine in each, and can still be accessed when wearing a climbing harness.

Functional articulation is built into the hood and sleeves, and gusseted underarms extend range of motion. Coming well below the waist, the hem length offers a bit more midriff protection than the shorter jackets on test. Gore Windstopper uses an ePTFE membrane just like waterproof Goretex, but while Gore claims total windproofness for the Windstopper fabrics, they are said to be only water resistant.

Well bearing in mind the abuse that this sort of jacket will get over the years, we have come down in favour of it. Blocking 98% of the wind, highly breathable, water repellent and extremely abrasion resistant, the Montane Sabretooth Jacket has phenomenal potential. Given the insulation on offer here the relatively light weight, just 405g (size L), is surprising, and we'd say that Mammut have done well to keep it this low. This does not apply to any perishable goods, unsealed software or item personalised or made to your specification.

Designed for all day use in mixed 3 season conditions, the Dyno LT Jacket is constructed from Granite Stretch, 4-way stretch, wind-resistant fabric with a PFC-free DWR for shedding light showers. It is on the heavy side though, at 477g (size M), and doesn't feel as cool and breathable as the real summer lightweights. As far as I can see what Montane have actually done is renamed the heavier Alpine Stretch as the Dyno Stretch, and ditch the lightweight previous incarnation.
