About this deal

These first cocktails were often made with genever, because of its powerful, delicious flavors and balanced mixing qualities. Bols Genever Amsterdam Gin is a characterful and unique combination of re-distilled botanicals and refined with pure grain alcohol. They couldn't easily find it, because at the time it was only being sold in the Netherlands and Belgium.

In the 17th Century, through marriage, King William of Orange the third became king of England and introduced Genever. This is a totally authentic and unique drink that should be tried by anyone with an interest in gin. Bols Genever Gin became one of the most important ingredients for a new phenomenon in the 19th century, the cocktail.Fourteen ingredients such as angelica root aniseed ginger root apricot nuts and learwyt seed are then infused for flavouring. Piet van Leijenhorst, Master Distiller at Lucas Bols is an expert when it comes to the traditional Dutch spirit Genever. Try this beautiful genever in a Red Light Negroni, a Bols classic with Italian bitter liqueur and sweet vermouth. Made with a malt wine base as opposed to neutral spirit the result is a rich, full bodied like whisky but with the herbal complexity of a wondeful gin. Substitute aged rum or whiskeys with aged Genever and I can guarantee you'd end up with a great cocktail.

The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England. In 1820, Bols introduced a revolutionary new genever recipe with a more subtle taste, as a result of a better balance of malt wine, neutral grain alcohol and botanicals.
