About this deal

Chris Haughton is the author-illustrator of Little Owl Lost , his debut picture book, which won the 2011 Marion Vannett Ridgway Award. that is rendered like one really, really talented with the old paint programs we used to use when bored with the computer (before the internet, kids).

He was listed in Time magazine's 'DESIGN 100' for the work he has been doing for fair trade clothing company People Tree. Recently went on holiday with friends with children and this was hit with all of them when we did the bedtime story together. George said he'd be good and he wants to be good, but being good is tricky when there are so many fun temptations to be found when you're alone in the house. Have read this over and over and kids feel drawn into George's naughtiness, his having to say sorry, and then .However for George the cake looks just too delicious to resist and we are shown him having gobbled it all up. At first I found the illustrations a little basic, I wasn't too keen on the computer generated graphic feel of it, but it's grown on me and the pictures and story work really well together. Also love how she laughs at the last page every single time, I've not seen any other books make her laugh like that. The degree to which a particular child succeeds in this transition correlates closely with this child’s readiness for the rule-following and socialization that are central to being a participant in school.

This board book is small and has thick board pages that are filled with colourful illustrations and some text. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Chris Haughton now lives and works as an author-illustrator and designer in London. I ran this one by Maddie (9) who chuckled at the voices we used, but she also liked some of the little surprises in the pictures.

You’ve RUINED the place …’ With poor George in tears, Harris suggests a walk and George is soon faced once again with tempting situations; seeing a cake, lovely soil and a cat. It has been translated into 15 languages and won 9 awards in 7 countries including the Dutch Picturebook of the Year. at the end of each situation could be read and enjoyed by the children as they famililarise themselves with the story, making it a good inclusive class book. Very simple and based around bight oranges and reds they are eye catching and give you lots to talk about without being too distracting or too detailed for young minds. George keeps spotting things that he loves, and as you've probably guessed, he can't quite control himself so when Harrison comes home the whole house looks a mess.

By submitting a review you grant us the right to display and use it in any way; please read our General Legal Notices for full details. The book tells the story of a dog named George who continually disobeys his owner Harris who asked him to be good before he left him on his own for the day. The high contrast illustrations make it good for very young children, while toddlers will enjoy the story and saying whether they think George will be naughty or good. He then feels remorse for making a mess and upsetting Harry, this is the turning point as you see George’s character grow. The two-page spread of George with his mouth open like some sort of gaping steam shovel, having just bitten off a third of the cake, is roll-on-the-floor hilarious.

I bought this on the strength of the recommendations for my two year old granddaughter who loves books. Anniversary Edition By Chris Haughton It's hard work being good all the time – and it's especially hard for a dog like George! e dog meets temptation, asks moral question, reader is asked what they think will happen and then George gives in to the temptation.

Inevitably George consumes the entire cake and the book continues with the scenarios of George seeing a cat and lovely soil. Howlingly funny, its luridly elegant illustrations will be in frequent demand; ideal for parents and grandparents to read aloud. Coming to the theatre can sometimes feel like quite a big experience, and we understand that there are lots of people who might want to know what they can expect, before they arrive. The art work is so distinctive and the repetition in the text is great for getting little ones involved in 'reading' the story; Oh No, George! Whilst you want to be annoyed at George, and probably ought to be, George perfectly captures every dog lovers dilemma - how can you be mad at George when he's so damn cute?
