About this deal

Those who choose to ignore rules about how to behave, how to dress, who they are supposed to have children with. Then Amaya Shah and Kamal Azim go missing, and Tanner is certain their disappearance fits the pattern of the other killings. Could it be that her enquiries within the local Asian community had ruffled one too many of the wrong feathers. Informed and horrified - that in the name of religion families could commit violence and murder against female relatives who are accused of bringing shame to the family.

Tanner's partner Susan was recently murdered in their home and she is currently on compassionate leave. The book contains all the usual elements of a successful thriller - there are hit men, red herrings galore, more twists than a Curly Wurly and above all an engaging team in Thorne and Tanner. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Official figures are that there are around a dozen or so honour killings in the UK each year, with around five thousand each year globally - a thousand of these killings take place in Pakistan alone. Now I don’t know anybody who wouldn’t have been moved and indeed horrified by the true story of Banaz Mahmod and the way in which she suffered at the hands of family for the simple act of falling in love with the wrong man. Always in trouble with his superiors, always following his own instincts, occasionally suspended, irascible, committed, etc.

Billingham's passionate depiction of the injustice and brutality that flow from these killings spills from every page, making this one of his most powerful crime novels, written with a fury that does both him and Thorne justice. As the killers target their latest victim, Thorne takes the biggest risk of his career and is drawn into a horrifying and disturbing world in which families will do anything to protect their honour. With viewpoints shifting as the story goes along, we join Muldoon and Riaz as they abduct a pair of young Muslims who were planning on running away together. here he is back doing what he does best solving crime and crime does not come more topical that Mark Billingham's Love like Blood.

Tanner is now on compassionate leave but insists on pursuing the case off the books and knows Thorne is just the man to jump into the fire with her. Don't come into it looking for outright condemnation and contempt at the practice of honour killing, although that is most certainly the context of the novel. i was curios as the subject of the book is honour killings in moslem and Sikh families in england - a phenomen which we have in Israel with Muslim a Bedouins. The murderer's motive might have something to do with Tanner's recent work on a string of cold-case honor killings she believes to be related. Much less a whodunnit and much more a twisted tale to the full truth of the matter, Tom is pulled into a contrary situation by Nicola Tanner (see Die Of Shame ) who having suffered a horrific personal lost is determined to bring those responsible to justice.
