The story takes you to the very edge only to pull you back long enough to regroup and then begin all over again. Woven throughout the over-arching storyline, we also get vignettes of side characters that Valentino and Orion encounter along the way. It's the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there's one question on everyone's mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict death, or is it an elaborate hoax? I did enjoy Orion and Valentino's storyline, but there were a lot of extra characters, some interesting, some not so much.
Silvera not only poignantly captures the raw emotion of facing your own morality, but creates such relatable and authentic characters you want to follow on their journey. The things that they made time to do: the secret train station, the 9/11 memorial, the bridge… every single moment was a beautiful use of their short time together, which was so heartwarming. just like “they both die at the end” this prequel has multiple narrators but the main ones are Orion and Valentino.
