About this deal

For most indoor furniture, I will move my way up through the sanding grits on a hand-held random orbit sander, beginning at 120, then going to 150 or 180 and finally finishing at 220. I haven't tried this but she said to place a piece of clean, dry cloth over the area and run an iron, at a very low temperature setting, over the area. When using a cloth, use a circular or figure of eight pattern to work into the wood, and apply until the wood stops absorbing. The way I personally look at this is to ask myself how dark a timber has to be before I stop worrying about the finish making it darker? Not only will the Danish Oil protect oak, but it really brings out the grain, enhancing the natural look and feel of all items made from oak.

Our Danish Oil has been formulated to prime, seal and finish any wood surface as well as re-oiling wood for maintenance. Products like "Danish oil" vary a lot from maker to maker and additionally how much was initially applied, the absorbency of the wood, the temperature and humidity and how thoroughly the excess was wiped away are all factors in the 'drying' time. For the finest of finishes, use one of our Finishing Pads between coats of oil to create a super smooth finish. Danish Oil is completely non-toxic and food safe when dry which means in can be used on all oak items and in all environments. Your choice of colour for Oak flooring comes in all manners of styles, be it the darkest of tones or the lightest of whites.Best of all, when the finish starts to wear away after a few years or lots of use, you can reapply a coat of Danish oil, and it will look as good as new again. Using a Lint Free Cloth will not spoil the application of the oil by leaving any unwanted loose fibres, threads and lint on the surface. Identify the “A” side of your worktop, as that will be the side which will be visible in your kitchen. Because of the mix of ingredients, Danish oil is slightly more durable than Tung oil and is also easier to apply.

I had to dilute the first coat with white spirit (a bit like a mist coat with paint) , then two coats full strength. Above are two oak chopping blocks for illustration, prepared for oiling by sanding with 80 grit sandpaper. I know red oak is definitely an "open grain" wood with relatively large pores so I reasoned that the stain that had gotten into the larger pores would take longer to dry.

This positioning, alongside our focus on sustainability and preserving the environment, resounds through all we do. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application, and any old oils or waxes have been removed, if restoring an item.

As pine is a softwood it marks easier than hardwoods; using Danish Oil on pine will protect the surface of the pine and help stop it from marking as easily. In this blog, we will discuss the benefits of applying Danish Oil to oak, what it looks like when it is applied, and other uses. and apply to all four sides, then start wiping off with paper towels, after I have most wiped off I get another towel and wipe them down really well, rubbing the finish in. You can mix certain stains and pigments with Danish oil (check the manufacturer’s guidelines to see which ones work with the Danish oil you’re using), but we recommend staining it before you apply the oil to give you greater control over the stain. This method allows any nibs or dust to be removed with very fine grade wire wool or fine abrasive paper between coats of Danish Oil if necessary.Unlike Osmo, with Danish Oil, you want to have oil sitting on the surface of the worktop before you wipe off all the excess. Im far from an expert, and where were at now, even though we got away with it, I think thats all it was - We were lucky.
