About this deal

Recently underwent a billion pound expansion to be at an estimated four million litres per annum which is still a far cry from its 1980’s heyday when it was the world’s largest distillery, with 36 stills turning out around 30 million litres a year. I was surprised by this Japanese whisky as I was expecting it to be a bit harsh and lacking the complex flavours of most Scottish malts. This Japanese 12 year old whisky is just superb, everything about it is perfectly balanced from the very first nosing, typical Japanese know how from start to finish. Experience the art of whiskey tasting with our exclusive selection of rare and exceptional whiskies.

Keizo Saji inherited his father’s vision in his quest for innovation and constructed this second Suntory distillery in 1973.

It's a concept rich in meaning the world over, but particularly in Japan where respect for tradition and reinvention sparks a powerful creative energy.

Tasting the whisky was a really nice experience too, there was no sharpness or harshness to the taste, and it seemed like a very mellow Speyside to me. I'd never tried a Japanese whisky before, sticking strictly to aged single malt Scotch, but really wanted to give it a go, so when we saw this on sale we just grabbed it. We've tried it neat, neat with a dash of water and neat on the rocks and we'd encourage you to do the same and decide what suits you best. The water and environment at the Hakushu distillery is vastly different to that of the Yamazaki distillery; as is the creation process.
